No One Has to Suffer in Silence

Clara Reynolds President & CEO
As many of you know, I'm a licensed clinical social worker, and I started my journey in this field as a Child Protective Investigator - also known as a child abuse investigator or CPI.   During my time in that roll, I witnessed first-hand the impact of abuse and neglect.  Many times, those young abuse survivors had suffered in silence for days, weeks, months and sometimes years before their situation was ever reported to authorities.  Those victims were told "let's keep it a family secret."  But, as we know all too well, untreated trauma is not silent.  It ALWAYS surfaces when a survivor least expects it.

Comparing my time as a CPI to my work now at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, I have discovered that there are many silent survivors in our community.  Women and men who are sexually assaulted many times suffer in silence.... READ MORE

Mary Finds Strength Through Her Crisis Center Support Team

The traumatic experiences in Aunt Mary's life were adding up, including the death of her husband 10 years ago. A suicide attempt by overdose led to an involuntary hospitalization under the Baker Act.

Samantha knew she had to intervene.

She told her aunt that when she had faced a crisis in her past, she received trauma counseling at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay - and so could she. In Mary's first meeting with a Crisis Center care coordinator, Mary shared that a few months earlier she had been sexually assaulted by a younger neighbor who continued to harass and stalk her....READ MORE

TransCare Receives Three Year CAAS Reaccreditation

CAAS Accredited Through 2020
Last year, TransCare provided more than 38,000 medical and behavioral health transports in our community. With more than 100 staff members, TransCare plays a crucial role in achieving the mission of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

To maintain a standard of excellence, TransCare has chosen to exceed general industry norms by obtaining an accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Service (CAAS). Only 16 agencies in Florida are CAAS accredited, and TransCare is the only CAAS service in Hillsborough County. The accreditation means an organization has obtained the gold standard determined by the ambulance industry to be essential in a modern emergency medical services provider.

TransCare was recently notified by CAAS that it had no deficiencies in its 2018 site visit, and had been granted a three year reaccreditation!

Crisis Center Named One of Tampa Bay's Top Workplaces

To best serve people in our community who are experiencing crisis and trauma, the Crisis Center first must ensure that staff and volunteers work in a positive environment that encourages professional and personal growth.

This process is managed by the Crisis Center's talent management team, which recently learned its hard work had paid off when the Crisis Center was named one of area's Top 100 Workplaces by the Tampa Bay Times.

To determine the top 100 workplaces, the Tampa Bay Times conducted an anonymous employee survey on numerous factors, including organization alignment, effectiveness, connections, and management, to measure how well employees are working together toward a common cause.

Veteran Support Staff to Work at IIOP Facility

The International Institute of Orthotics & Prosthetics (IIOP) will provide the Crisis Center with office space at its new facility on Memorial Highway in Tampa, allowing the Crisis Center to connect veterans receiving help and training at IIOP to community programs and support.

IIOP offers a variety of orthotics and prosthetics services to people with amputations, specializing in helping active military and veterans. They provide a one-stop solution for all aspects of prosthetics, including mentoring and support groups. The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay's Mission United Coordinator will spend one day a week at IIOP's new facility, helping to connect veterans to community resources.

This new collaboration between the Crisis Center and IIOP will allow men and women who have served our country to have easier access to the help they deserve.

If you know a veteran who is struggling and needs support, call 1-844-MyFLVet or 2-1-1 anytime.
