Use Your Strategic Foresight and Save the Date!
The Connecticut State Library, Division of Library Development is actively using Strategic Foresight ™ to create an organization of adaptable individuals with diverse strategic mindsets that are able to connect and capitalize on their changing environment. DLD in partnership with Kedge Futures School will present a workshop to introduce CT librarians to external perspectives, leveraging foresight tools with the goal of challenging conventional thinking.
Leading organizations in these volatile and complex times require new approaches and mindsets. Trends in society, technology and the economy are all converging in unexpected ways, forever changing the way people view the world. The organizations and institutions that anticipate this value shift and make the appropriate course adjustments will be positioned to benefit from the opportunities that result. Those that remain tied to current business practices and outdated ways of developing leaders will likely fail.
Building upon DLD’s impressive track record, Kedge will assist the organization, and librarian participants, onto the path of understanding how diverse trends will collide and converge impacting their operations today. Kedge’s trademarked approach combines qualitative and quantitative data (from inside and outside the organization) with uniform models that results in the development of market-leading innovation, successful opportunity development and revenue-generating futures intelligence.
Objectives
1. Experience a facilitated an immersive introductory workshop that helps broaden the perspective of session participants as it relates to the future of our globally interconnected world and how libraries fit into these changing landscapes.
2. Participants will be exposed to emerging trends that will impact the future of libraries.
3. Participants will challenge their current assumptions and biases about the future of libraries by practicing how to scan the macro environment for disruptions and opportunities.

NASA @ My Library STEM Kits Available in February!!!
As part of the NASA @ My Library grant program, the Connecticut State Library has been given 3 NASA STEM kits to circulate to public libraries in Connecticut. Kit 1 is called
Sun-Earth-Moon Connections
. Kit 2 is called
Be A NASA Detective: Expanding Your Senses
. We have two of the Kit 2 bins.
In addition, a new libguide was created to give more information about these kits along with additional activities, resources, and people you can contact to do programming at your library around the space theme. This is especially timely with this year's summer reading theme:

LSTA Grant Deadlines and Information Sessions
This year’s deadline for one-year literacy grants of up to $7,500 is April 8, 2019, and the next deadlines for six-month planning grants of up to $5,000 are February 25 and April 22.
All potential LSTA grant applicants must attend an information session to be eligible to apply, and there are only two more scheduled before the April deadlines. Register for the session of your preference at

E-rate Help Sessions
Maria Bernier, E-rate Coordinator, has scheduled the following in-person help sessions for E-rate filings:

requestIT CT Update
We will begin implementing connectors in 2019. The first FulfILLment connector for use in requestIT will be developed in the 2
nd
quarter of 2019. Equinox, the company that supports FulfILLment, will develop a connector for the Evergreen Integrated Library System (ILS). We will be rolling out the connector this spring and summer to libraries that are in Bibliomation and that are participating in requestIT CT.
FulfILLment connectors interoperate with libraries’ ILS systems. This interoperation automates some manual Interlibrary Loan (ILL) tasks and will make the ILL process much easier for a library's ILL and circulation staff members. Connectors also may be used to keep libraries’ holdings in the findIT catalog up to date.

eGO Live Testing
The State Library's statewide eBook platform will go into limited public testing in February. LYRASIS, the State Library's eGO development partner, has worked with Bibliomation to secure the cooperation of the Hall Memorial Library, Plumb Memorial Library, and Woodbury Public Library. Each library will select a group 3-5 power users who will download and install the SimplyE app to their phones or portal devices, login to the app with their library cards, and browse or search, checkout, read, bookmark if desired, and return eBook titles from these collections:

State Library RBdigital collection (eBooks only)
·
State Library Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) Content Exchange collection
·
DPLA Open Bookshelf collection
·
New York Public Library collection of classics
The collections combined add up to more than 18,723 titles. Testing will continue through March at which time patron survey feedback will be reviewed and next steps discussed.
