2018 ALBERTA NONPROFIT SURVEY

The Alberta Nonprofit Survey takes an annual snapshot of the health and experience of Alberta's nonprofits to capture information on finances, demand for programs and services, staffing, and the future economic outlook of organizations. It is the only source of Alberta-specific research on the experience of the nonprofit sector.  The Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations will also use survey results to advocate on behalf of the nonprofit sector in the lead up to the May 2019 provincial election.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and is open until May 31.

EXERCISE AND EYE CARE TOP LIST OF FALLS REDUCTION STRATEGIES

In a 2017 study that compared many ways to help older adults prevent falls, researchers confirmed that exercise is always key, especially when combined with other interventions tailored for the individual.

They caution there is no one-size-fits-all formula. Instead it's a matter of finding the right combination of exercise along with regular vision care; improving the living environment (e.g. removing tripping hazards); sometimes the use of aids such as orthotics or hip protectors; and in many cases taking calcium and vitamin D for bone health.

Tricco, et al. (2017). Comparisons of interventions for preventing falls in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis. JAMA. 2017;318(17):1687-1699. doi:10.1001/jama.2017.15006.
