See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and this is what we are.

Dear Friends,

One ongoing gift of the Christian life is praying with and for one another. It doesn't need to be fancy or long-winded. Just simple conversation and connection with God. Thanking God for all we have and all God has done. Asking God for strength, for clarity, for wisdom, for healing, for courage and for love. Why pray? Because it reorients us to who and whose we are. Because we've been hard-wired for it. And because we need it!

Our daughter Eden has been teaching me about prayer. During her bedtime routine, we try to thank God for the day and look ahead to the next one. We try to remember our family and friends in prayer, our church, our neighborhood and anything else on our hearts. We keep it short and sweet. No paragraph-long petitions. No GRE words. We just ask God to bless and strengthen everyone we name.

Inspired by Eden's prayers, I recently wrote a simple prayer that would be a guide for my prayers for you. (Not quite as concise as hers, but pretty close!) Today, I encourage you to pick five people in your life and pray it for them. And, if you don't mind, please pray it for me as well. I need your prayers just as you need mine.

Gracious God, bless and strengthen _____ today. Fill her/him with your joy and peace, your courage and wisdom. May s/he be a conduit of your grace, wherever s/he goes and whatever s/he does. May s/he trust you no matter what. May s/he feel you always with her. May s/he experience your love for her/him. In the highs and lows of this day, and everywhere in between, may s/he walk in your light and life and love. Amen.

Friends, prayer changes us and it changes those whom we pray for. Thanks be to God. Thank you for your partnership in this invisible and profound work.

With gratitude and lots of hope,
Rev. Jeff Lehn

Come and See "Screenagers" at the Wilmette Theater - Tuesday, May 8th, 6:30 pm
As a result of our film series with St. Francis, we've decided to put on a community event to show "Screenagers" at the Wilmette Theater on Tuesday, May 8, at 6:30 pm. "Screenagers" is an award-winning film that probes into the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions on how we can help our kids navigate the digital world. The film is 65 minutes long and then we'll have a 30-minute talk back with Pastor Jeff and a local educator. Tickets are $10 and will be available to purchase on line. Please click here to access the link to purchase tickets. All are welcome. Please join us and invite a friend!

Lounge Refresh
A sub-committee of Buildings & Grounds has been formed, to oversee and facilitate a new look for the Lounge. This refresh will include new flooring, paint, furniture, lighting and window treatments. The Lounge is a valuable space used by church committees, small groups, as well as outside organizations (i.e. Boy Scouts, Al-Anon). A component of the committee's charge is to review how the space is currently used and what layout would best accommodate the many meetings that gather in the Lounge each week. The committee will post regular updates to the congregation on the refresh progress and we welcome those who wish to share a resource/ability or a gift. Stop by the office during the week and check out the many ideas submitted by the committee members. This is an exciting project and the committee is pledged to create a beautiful space for all to use. We are grateful for the generosity of the Carter Fund as well as an additional gift from a church family which will make this refresh possible.
Refresh Committee: Irris Boaz, Dorothy Ballantyne, Colleen Jersild, Joyce Knauff, Jacqui Koch, Marilyn McKenzie, Sue Sklansky, Madeline Weston and Jeff Miller, Committee Chair.

The Story of the Early Church
"Christ is risen!" For disciples of Jesus, this amazing proclamation changes everything. But what does it actually look like to love God and neighbor and "do church" together? What does it mean to be Easter people in a Good Friday world? The Acts of the Apostles tells the messy and magnificent story of the early church. It picks up right where the Gospel of Luke left off, featuring remarkable stories of courageous and imperfect women and men as they spread the good news of God's love into all the world. Join Pastors Jeff and Erin as we study six biblical passages from Acts (ending May 13). The class will gather in the Upper Room from 8:45 am. Here are the passages if you'd like to study ahead (Acts 1:1-11; 6:1-7; 9:1-22; 11:1-18; 15:1-31; 16:16-40 and 28:23-31). We'd love to see you there!

We are in need of coffee hour hosts for the month of May.  Please consider hosting a Fellowship Hour and help to continue our wonderful tradition of hospitality. Check out the   SignUpGenius on the News & Publications page of our website  and choose a Sunday that works for you.

Stock the Shelves
Is a partnership between fpcw, Sukkat Shalom and First Congregational Church Wilmette who, as people of faith, are responding with God's love and welcome as refugee families make new lives in the Chicago-land area. The mobile store is the missing link that unites an abundance of North Shore resources with under-resourced refugee families, as these families continue to build sustainable and thriving lives. Please click here to read more about how you can support the Mobile Store mission.

To help make donations easy, click here . A wish list has been set-up and donations made will be shipped directly to the church. Thank you for your continued support.
