Letter from the President

Last week the chapter hosted its Annual Meeting in conjunction with the March Hacking a Construction Company program. At that time the membership approved the 2019 - 2020 new board member and officer slate.  I am honored to begin my second year as your board president and look forward to a successful year for our chapter surrounded by dynamic leaders making a difference in our industry.

My first course of business is to thank outgoing board member Courtney Hartnett, Milord Construction, for her leadership and commitment during her three-year term on the board.  Courtney will continue to share her knowledge with CFMA through her involvement on the Program and Build Chicago Award committees.  I'd also like to welcome our new board member Joel Dziedzic, BKD, LLP.  Joel has been an active member of CFMA and currently chairs the Internship Committee.   The officers remain unchanged for the coming year.  Vice President, Bill Reidinger, Assurance Agency; Treasurer, Jason Vanden Bosch, CBIZ, MHM; and Secretary, John Metz, Christopher Glass and Aluminum, will continue to provide oversight and strategic direction for the chapter.

In addition to our board members, our chapter is represented by many leaders; some at the local CFMA level, some at the national level, and many who are viewed as leaders throughout their respective industry.  The "Build Chicago" Awards Luncheon serves to annually recognize a Construction Contractor, a General Member, and an Associate Member in the construction finance industry, who exemplify the highest level of leadership and support for CFMA, their community, and the industry.  I would like to take this opportunity to personally congratulate our 2019 "Build Chicago" Award winners, Joel Dziedzic, Jen Haub, and Power Construction for their service and leadership. I encourage you to join us on Thursday, May 9 at the Standard Club to celebrate these honorees and the Chapter's success over the past year.

Finally, thank you for renewing your membership commitment to CFMA.  Membership in CFMA demonstrates your leadership in the industry.   If you have not yet renewed, we encourage you to do so to prevent a lapse in your member benefits. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming program or committee meeting, or at the Annual conference in Las Vegas this June.

Leading an organization is more challenging than ever, making leaders sometimes wonder if it would be better to go work at their local coffee shop.

Utilizing over 20 years of experience in psychology, with business expertise developed in the trenches, combined with humorous stories of his own leadership failures, our guest speaker, Dr. Jeff Van Meter (without psychobabble) describes the psychological skills leaders should master to create their dream organization. Moving beyond emotional intelligence, these skills will help make you a more valuable member of your current organization, becoming the type of person your team will trust and rely on.

Dr. Jeff Van Meter
is a recovering Engineer, Theologian and Psychologist.  He has served as a business and leadership consultant with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), Cypress Leadership Development and the Lead Life Institute.
