Dear friend,

Hooray! Hooray! the first of May! One might ask, however, whatever happened to April? Seems it came and went so quickly and with such a seasonal subterfuge and vengeance that one might think somehow April got missed this year.

Not us, of course. We knew it was April all along because April is National Volunteer Month, the month we especially celebrate volunteers who make the world go 'round here and everywhere in April and year round - no matter the weather. So, take that Mother Nature!

Seriously, can you possibly imagine where we and this community might be without the amazing, smart, fun, kind, gifted and generous volunteers who make 1 + 1 = 5 year in and year out?

This weekend I had a chance to visit with 90-year-old Bill Rudolph, who for over 30 years and on a weekly basis had been delivering food donated at weekend liturgies at Holy Name to our food shelf. It was such fun and actually so moving to hear him share memories of his long and faithful service and how much he appreciated and misses the food shelf volunteers who had become his Interfaith friends. A lovely and privileged glimpse of community at its best to close volunteer appreciation month. Bless you, Bill. Thank you! Bless you, volunteers!
