Washington County proclaims May National Building Safety Month
The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday (May 1) proclaimed May National Building Safety Month in support of work performed by the Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT).
Founded by the International Code Council (ICC) in 1980, Building Safety Month is celebrated worldwide each May through a public awareness campaign to raise awareness about critical safety issues. Building codes, and the officials who enforce them, make communities safer and more resilient. Homes and buildings built in compliance with building safety codes result in resilient structures that minimize the risks of death, injury and property damage.
This year's theme is "Building Codes Save Lives." Throughout May, LUT will reinforce the importance of partnerships, advancements in science and technology, family and community disaster preparation, safeguarding water and improving training standards. Read the proclamation.
