Robert Lee
Head of School

Most of us have heard of 80/20 rule. The idea is that 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people.  At one of my graduate classes at the Harvard School of Business, I learned another view of 80/20 rule. The professor had started and led multiple social enterprises and non-profits, and he was reflecting on the right time to leave an organization.

He said most leaders typically give 80% of their innovation and energy to an organization in their first 20% of time. Afterwards, the reverse occurs. It may take another 80% of their time to eke out that last 20% of creativity. Based on this formula, my time at Christ Covenant School has come to an end. As of June 30th, I will no longer be at our school and will be moving on where my gifts and creatively can be best used by the Lord.  For me to stay and try to muster that last 20% would not be fair to me or to the school. The board agrees with this plan and will be working to find the next leader who can take our school to the next level.

I wish them success and want to thank the very best group of teachers, students and parents the Lord has ever assembled for allowing me to serve and learn together with you. Over the next months, not much will change, but you may see me more reflective, less stressed, and ever hopeful for the good future God has for our school.

Blessings.

Mr. Lee

ERB Testing - Next Week
Students in grades 1-9 are scheduled to take the ERB standardized tests. ERB stands for Educational Records Bureau, which is a nationally normed standardized test that thousands of religious and non-religious private institutions across the nation rely upon to evaluate the academic progress and performance of their students. Testing will be held Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. each day at both Upper and Lower Schools.

We cannot stress enough the importance of having your child(ren) arrive to school on time for these days. On time arrival means that they are here, personal belongings in place, seated and ready to receive instruction by 7:55 a.m. Students should be finished by 12:00 noon each day. It is important that you help prepare your child for the week by remembering the following: Attendance: Please re-schedule any routine appointments that you may have scheduled for your child during testing time. Punctual: It is essential that you have your child here on time next week. Pencils: Please remember to send your child with at least 2 sharpened #2 pencils with good erasers. Snacks? A break for snack will be provided for the students. Feel free to pack a snack for your child. Missed days? Friday has been designated for make-up tests. No other make-up days will be available beyond Friday. Except for emergencies, there shall be no traffic within the school during test days/hours. Please refrain from teacher/admin consultations in the morning before (or obviously during) testing time in order to keep potential disruptions to a minimum. Practical tips: Please make sure your children are well rested over the previous weekend and do make sure they have a good night's rest. A good breakfast before each day of testing is always a good idea.

Basil's Spirit Day
We are blessed to have Basil owners Jeremy and Jennifer Spengemen as part of our Christ Covenant School family.  Mr. and Mrs. Spengemen's son, Preston, is in kindergarten at our school.  They have been great supporters of our Athletic program and have been kind enough to offer another Basil's spirit day where they've pledged 10% of the daily proceeds to Spartan Athletics for Monday, April 30th!

Please consider dining at Basil's either for lunch or dinner on Monday, April 30th to support Spartan Athletics.  We have the potential to earn a significant amount of money just for having lunch and/or dinner out.  What could be easier?  If you are a business owner, why not consider placing a lunch order for your employees?  Basil's will gladly take your order and efficiently have it ready at your specified pick up time.

Senior Pinnacle Presentations
As part of our graduation requirements, Christ Covenant School seniors are required to complete a Senior Pinnacle Project/Presentation.  The Senior Pinnacle is an opportunity for students to engage in scholarly activities and produce an original work. The Pinnacle is meant to be the culmination of the student's experience at Christ Covenant School.

The topics and work researched are informative, interesting and extremely impressive with each senior bringing their unique perspective to a variety of topics.  Join us for one, several or all of their presentations.

Added Hot Lunch Day
Due to the snow day back in January where school and hot-lunch were cancelled, we've added an extra hot lunch day to the schedule to provide lunch for those pre-paid lunches.

The added hot lunch is TUESDAY, MAY 8.  We'll be serving Basil's Cheese Pizza!  Each student will receive 2 slices.

The list of students with pre-paid orders for the cancelled January lunch is linked here.  These students will automatically receive pizza on 5/8; no further action is needed.

If your child is not on the list and would like pizza, you'll need to log on to RenWeb to place your order before the deadline of Tuesday, May 1.

We also need volunteers to pick up the pizzas and deliver to the Lower and Upper School on Tuesday, May 1, as well as on-site helpers to assist with serving.
  • The pick up times for the Lower School are 11:15, 11:45 and 12:20; and pick up for the Upper School will be at 11:30.
  • Lower School onsite servers are needed 11:30 - 12:50.
