E-News - April 2019
The Easter season brings multiple opportunities to share the story of our Risen Savior. We have special services scheduled for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, great times to invite friends and neighbors to worship with you. The Easter Egg Hunt Wednesday, April 17 is a great time to introduce families to the ministries of our church. Be sure to check throughout this newsletter for ways you can reach out to the community with the greatest message in history.

Thank you for your continued faithful giving to the Envision project. As we near the completion of our remodeled facilities, pray that God will bless these efforts to reach individuals and families with the life-transforming message of Christ.

I can’t wait to see what God is going to do through you!

EASTER at NHBC
On April 14th we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper in the evening service. Similar to our Christmas Candlelight Service, this special Lord’s Supper Service at Easter has become an NHBC tradition that we look forward to each year-- a time to reflect, remember, and celebrate our Lord’s resurrection. Also, remember to invite friends and family to celebrate Easter with us on April 21. We will celebrate in both morning services with special musical presentations and uplifting songs of worship. We will not have evening services on Easter Sunday.

WOMEN ON MISSION STUDY CULTURAL CHALLENGES
Women on Mission will meet Tuesday, April 9 at 9:30 with Presidents Judy Divine and Doris Whitcher officiating. Patti Crocker will lead the Prayer Calendar as members pray for missionaries who celebrate their birthdays in April. A coffee/snack/share time will convene at 10:15 with hostesses Becky Bennett and Ruth Scott in charge. The morning’s program, which begins at 10:45, will be under the direction of Becky Bennett. She will present guest speakers from Second Baptist Church who will be sharing some mission experiences. As we are in the beginning of the spring season, growing our churches and our organizations is much like growing a garden. Listen for ideas on how to proceed and make progress. Learn how to share information. Whether here at home or in another part of our world, people continue to need Christ. Let us each determine we will share Him through our daily life and as we give testimony through attitude and conversation. Come join us for this interesting morning.
EASTER EGG HUNT!
Wednesday, April 17 - 6 p.m. - For walking children - 6th grade

Church Family, we are continuing to collect small wrapped candy for the hunt. Please consider donating and dropping them in the tubs by the entrances.
Stepping Out Testimonies
Many of our membership are “stepping out” into the community. This focus each month will allow you to hear from them, know how you can pray for that outreach and perhaps be inspired to join in as well.
SAFE-TO-SLEEP
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

It has been two years this March since I began driving for Safe-To-Sleep. I first drove the Bear Line at MSU for one year after teaching and administering in public schools for forty-one years. My very first run and skill test with the Bear Line, my supervisor asked if I would mind carrying students during my driving test. I respond positively, opened the doors to the bus and allowed the young lady to make her way to her seat. After sitting down, she shouted, “You’re Mr. Weaver!” You see, I was able to help that young lady, her sister, and mother escape from a very abusive situation due to the fact, over my educational years, I was called upon to help rescue students from bad situations.

Some of the ladies that I get to carry on my Safe-To-Sleep bus are abused. Others are drug users, fighters, lovers, etc.--in other words, from all walks of life. Did you know that there is only one shelter that is opened 365 days a year for women and it is "Safe-To-Sleep". There are 25-35 ladies nightly. All the clients have to register to stay and obey the rules while in the church. Each lady is assigned a job to perform the next morning after breakfast. They are provided a ride from the site to either Cox North or the VA.

After receiving Christ as my Lord and Savior in April of 1969, I read a book entitled: Jesus Christ the Revolutionary. The author introduced me to many characteristics of Jesus that I never considered. Safe-To-Sleep is in need of volunteers. Helping watch, pray and console, be a rule enforcer, and helper are the jobs for the volunteers. A volunteer can serve either a 4 or 8-hour shift. If you would be interested in serving, needing more information, or know someone who might be interested, please see me or call me at 833-0694.

Thank you!
~Tom Weaver

SHARING CHRIST IN VIETNAM
Women on Mission will gather on Tuesday, April 23 at 9:30 for their meeting. After a short business session led by presidents Judy Divine and Doris Whitcher, an informal coffee/snack/share time will be enjoyed by the group at 10:15. Hostesses for the morning will be Eva McNeely and Eleanor Hoyt. Doris Whitcher is in charge of the program with special guest speaker to be Julie Icock. Julie is Children’s Minister at First Baptist Church here in Springfield. She and several others have just recently returned from a mission trip to Vietnam. She is anxious to share with us some of the things they learned and how each one of us can continue to be a witness and a testimony, whether here at home or abroad serving our Lord. She will be showing a video presentation of their mission. Our world needs Christ and we need to be front and center as we share Him with others. Come and join this time of inspiration together. You will be glad you came. The meeting closes at 11:45, with no lunch being served.

BLESSING BOX UPDATE:
While one of our volunteers was filling the box, a man drove up in a car and got out. The volunteer thought the man was coming to take items out. But instead, he shook his hand and said, “I just wanted to meet who was filling this box and say thank you.”

NOTES FROM THE BLESSING BOXES:
Thank you Jesus my Lord, my Savior, my guiding light. I would like to request prayer for a beautiful child of yours that she might be saved by accepting you into her wonderful heart and life so she may walk with you. Build a fortress of protection around her and her family, especially her three children. And for my daughter, son and mother. As for myself please show me where and what to do. I am lost Lord and want to live again. In your name I pray.

I’m an addict and I pray that God Blesses me with the will and desire to stay clean and be the man that he created me to be. Thank you!
