Honoring Thy Father
(grandfathers, papas, uncles, and other important men in our lives too)
This year, we will be offering (by donation) boutonnieres on
Father's Day - June 17th
to help us honor the wonderful
men in our lives.
All proceeds will go towards the All Church Retreat Fund to help keep the costs low.
You can also purchase one in memory of
an important man in your life.
Let's try to make sure all the wonderful men in our congregation are sporting a boutonniere on Father's Day.

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT AND/OR
GET INVOLVED IN OUR COMMUNITY?
|
With primaries coming up later this summer, candidates forums will be occurring fairly often. These provide a chance to hear and meet candidates, so you are better able to assess for yourself who to vote for. Remember that a face to face is often a better way to assess a person than from an unsolicited flier in the mail. Here is the recent list of forums from the League of Women Voters:
July 12, 6:00 p.m., Gaiser Hall at Clark College, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver: 3rd
Congressional District Representative.
July 14, 3:00 p.m., Clark Regional Wastewater District, 8000 NE 52nd Court (north of Padden Parkway and east of St. Johns Road): Clark Public Utility District Commissioner, 17th Legislative District, and Clark County Council Chair.
July 19, 6:00 p.m., Downtown Vancouver library, 901 C Street, Vancouver: Clark County Assessor, Clark County Councilor District #1, and Vancouver City Council.

Contact your Senators to urge them to make budget decisions that protect children and keep families together!
Next week, the Senate will review a proposed budget that will influence the U.S. government's treatment of immigrants in the U.S. and how the government addresses the root causes of migration. Senators will be making decisions about how money is allocated for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of State (DOS) for Fiscal Year 2019. Allocations for both agencies in the current fiscal year are concerning: DHS is receiving more funds to add hundreds of detention beds to imprison over 40,000 immigrants. In addition, DOS received funding to address the root causes of migration, which alarmingly also includes money for military training of forces known to have committed human rights violations.
The Senate has the opportunity next week to make changes and create a system that better respects the dignity of all people. As the past few weeks have shown, the actions of DHS and DOS have directly impacted the lives of children and families who escape conflict in their own countries and make their way to the U.S. Budgets are moral documents that reflect the values of a country. Urge your Senators to make budget decisions that stand for the safety and protection of the most vulnerable among us.
Senator Murray: (202) 224-2621
Senator Cantwell: (202) 224-3441
