20 Metric tons of Garbage
On World Water Day, March 22, 2018, the Rotary Clubs of Cucuta, Colombia coordinated 900 volunteers to complete a massive River Clean-up of the Rio Pamplonita.

The volunteers collected over 20 metric tons of garbage. In addition, a local contractor donated some heavy equipment to remove a dump site in the river.

This is only one of the inspiring projects that clubs tackled around the world as part of the WASRAG World Water Day Competition.
Bringing Water to a Mayan Village
The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, together with the Beaches Rotaract Club and District 6970 partnered with a number of other groups to bring a clean, consistent water supply to 120 families of the La Esperanza community, Guatemala.

The village raised money to capture water from a spring and pump it to the village. The Rotary clubs took on the responsibility to make the connections to the homes, including drainage basins, gray water seepage pits, meters and tap stands.

This year the group of partners are returning to the community to install storage tanks.
e-Club Provides Clean Water to School
In 2015, the Rotary e-Club of District 7710 used a District grant to provide water to the St. Joseph Ngarenaro Secondary School in Arusha, Tanzania. This is an all-girl boarding school with over 300 students.

Working with WASRAG and Water Missions they have determined that more needs to be done. They need to construct a borehole and pumping and filtration system.

Using a Global Grant the e-Club is almost half-way to gathering the funds they require to tackle this project. They are looking for some partners interested in assisting. If you would like to get involved or need more details contact  Rhonda Pearce
Clean Water to Fight Polio
The May 2018 issue of the Polio News, provided by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, featured a story "Rotary Deploys Clean Water to Fight Polio in Pakistan"

Orangi Town is the fifth largest slum in the world. The sewage system is basic and poorly maintained. The quality of drinking water is poor and contains bacteria and viruses, including the polio virus.

Health workers work tirelessly to immunize every child, but providing uncontaminated drinking water reduces the spread of the Polio virus.

Rotary Clubs in Karachi built a water filtration plant for 55,000 people, that uses solar energy to work consistently through the regular power outages in the area.
Cutting the Ribbon
The Rotary Club of Delhi Ashoka, working with their partner The Rotary Club of Box Hill Central, Australia are in the final stages of providing WASH in Schools (WinS) to 11 schools in the area.

At the end of May. they cut the ribbon on the WASH project at the Primary School at Sarvapriya Viihar, New Delhi. The work at this school included: construction of separate toilets for boys and girls; renovating an existing toilet block; providing drinking water and hand-washing stations; formation of a Child cabinet; and hygiene education provided by World Vision India.

They plan to use this school as a model of a sustainable WASH in Schools project. The school will also provide an excellent opportunity to inspire and motivate corporate and public support of the WinS program.

The Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) is pleased to consider partnerships with any corporate supporter. Due to the unique attributes of water sources and water provision, acceptance of corporate support does not imply an endorsement of any particular water technology. Rotarians, Rotary clubs, and Rotary partners must evaluate any technology to determine if it is the best solution for the conditions where the program will be implemented. WASRAG can provide guidance about where different technologies work best, but Rotarians and Rotary clubs must make the final decision about how to implement their programs.
