The wonderful month of May has arrived and tasting rooms are open and welcoming. The growing list of opportunities to sample Virginia spirits includes 280 wineries, 206 breweries and 45 distilleries.  Wow, what a selection!

Take particular note of our Featured Festivals of the Week and scroll down to Events for a list of where to go and what to do this month.  The Winery of the Month is Whitebarrel

Located in the New River Valley, only a short distance from the New River and the Little River, Whitebarrel sits on land that has been farmed for over a century in historic Childress, a mid-nineteenth century unincorporated area of Montgomery County.  It is the oldest winery in the county.

ORANGE UNCORKED WINE FESTIVAL 
MONTPELIER STATION 
For 27 years, the Montpelier Wine Festival has been held on the  
grounds of James Madison's Montpelier.  This year, the location 
is the same, but the festival has a great new name:  Orange Uncorked!  In addition, this is a historic year as it is the last time the event will be held at Montpelier, and the sponsors are pulling out all "corks" to make this festival the best ever!

Come and celebrate spring!  Bring a blanket and a picnic, as well as your love of Virginia wines. Over 20 wineries and cideries and food trucks will be on hand along with a great lineup of music that includes Scuffletown, Billy and the Backbeats, Midlife Crisis and 2 Wishes!!  Hours are 11am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm.

A world-class, waterfront, culinary event bringing together world-renowned chefs, artisanal craftsmen and culinary pioneers. This All-You-Care-To-Taste affair features over 150 different international and local wines, beers and spirits.  There is great food to taste from some of Baltimore's hottest restaurants and food trucks.  Musical entertainment includes Junkyard Saints and Black Tie Stereo.

New features this year include the Ferrari Champagne Lounge where you can dance in the bubbles with an in-house DJ.  The Rosé Pavilion will offer special tastings all day.

Festival gates open at 10 am with activities and live entertainment throughout the day until
6 pm.   The event covers more than seven blocks featuring some 20 Virginia wineries, over 100 vendors, artists and crafters from all over the east coast.

Not to be outdone by the wineries and crafters, food vendors will be out in force with over a dozen to choose from.  Festival goers are encouraged to visit the many unique shops and restaurants along Main Street during the event as well.  Fine handmade jewelry, hand crafted musical instruments, pottery and ceramics and more will delight shoppers.

Kick off the start of summer at the 18th Annual ValleyFest. More than 4,000 people are expected to come out to celebrate the holiday weekend, dance to live music, sample food, shop for unique and handmade crafts and enjoy quality wines and microbrews of the Shenandoah Valley. Many varieties of beer and wine will be represented, from merlots and pinots to American lagers, meads and malbecs. It's all of the beer and wine you could possibly enjoy in one place!
