For the  parents and families of St. Therese Chinese Catholic School

Dear St. Therese Families and Friends,

As you have heard already, I will assume the position of the Chief of Academics for the Chicago Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools effective Monday, July 2, 2018.  As Father Li shared with you, while I will no longer be the Principal of St. Therese School, I want you to know that I am still very committed to the mission of St. Therese School and I am so very confident that St. Therese is in good hands with the loving faculty and staff that I have had the privilege to work alongside with for so many years.

These weeks have been bittersweet in so many ways. I have shed many tears seeing the graduations, the Awards Ceremony and our many end-of-the-year traditions one last time. Know that I truly plan to stay connected and I will look forward to these visits to say hello to everyone.

To my beloved faculty and staff,
You are truly beautiful, faith-filled people who have supported me and given me your very best for years. We have gone through so much together. I am forever grateful. You are my heroes!

To my parents and children,
Through your energy and joy, you have taught me to enjoy the work we do!  Thank you for reminding me to laugh nearly every day. Thank you for the hugs, the kind words and the conversations that helped shape my leadership. You will always be with me.

To Father Li,
You are simply the kindest person I know and I will forever admire you. You inspire many people each day simply because of WHO and HOW you are! We are a lucky community to have you.

Thank you for granting me the privilege of working and serving all of you. It truly has been the honor of a lifetime. You trusted me with your confidence. You are all in my hearts forever.

With all my love,
Ms. Cavallone

Farewell to Principal Cavallone!

Students and staff bid farewell to our beloved Principal, Phyllis Cavallone, on the last day of school. Ms. Cavallone has been the principal of St. Therese Chinese Catholic School since 2004, where she led a dramatic turnaround of the school's enrollment and academic outcomes. The school and Ms. Cavallone have won numerous awards recognizing the immense impact her leadership has had on our school, students, alumni, parish and friends.
As Chief of Academics, Ms. Cavallone will provide leadership for the numerous academic initiatives of the Catholic schools in the Chicago Archdiocese, including instructional programs, curriculum formation, accreditation, assessments, and ongoing professional development for teachers and staff members. Ms. Cavallone will lead the OCS Academic Team in their essential work of supporting excellent teaching and learning in Catholic education.

As of July 1, 2018, Ms. Lisa Deborah Oi, our current Assistant Principal, will be serving as the Acting Principal while the formal principal search and hiring process is completed.

We are so grateful for all Ms. Cavallone has done in support of St. Therese! Please join Fr. Francis Li and the entire St. Therese Parish at a special Mass and luncheon of thanks and celebration on Sunday, June 24th at 10:30am.

We hope you will join us on Sunday, June 24 to thank Ms. Cavallone and wish her well in her new role!

Another Classroom Undergoing Dramatic Transformation
This summer we will transform one of our most-used classrooms from a traditional room into a creative, innovative and student-centered learning space. This includes  specialized classroom furniture, flexible seating and more student and teacher technology.

Benefits of this classroom design:
  • More frequent and individualized student-teacher interactions will help each student learn according to his/her educational needs.
  • Learning is hands-on, engaging, motivating and fun because students take a greater role in their learning.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills are enhanced.
  • Students work and learn in an environment similar to those found at the best high schools, universities and work settings.
Almost all aspects of the old classroom are almost gone and construction on the dramatic new space has begun.
We are excited to unveil this new classroom for the start of the 2018-2019 school year.  The cost of the project is estimated at $25,000. If you would like to help with the costs of this project, please donate online or send a gift directly to the school office. We appreciate your support for this important project!
Early Childhood Classes Celebrate Graduation
