Issue # 124 - February 2019

I started my Facebook Live program, Writi ng
Comes Alive on February 7th with a talk on getting ideas. It was the first in a six month series  on specific areas of writing. While my focus is on writing for children, I believe writing for grown-ups uses
the same principals and strategies. If you are interested in writing, I hope you'll tune-in every
month on the 7th at 1:00 pm Eastern time on my Facebook author page. If you haven't liked my page I hope you'll do so while you're there.
If you teach writing, this short talk will be perfect for students of all ages. February's talk is available in my author page video library. Speaking of videos, my Youtube videos are available here.
Hope you were warm and dry this past month. We got a little wet where I live! Best, Debbie
Writing For Kids The Ultimate Guide
Marcia Thornton Jones and I have combined our knowledge of writing for kids into a book that answers all the questions we had when we first started writing. It is available exclusively on Amazon. If you know someone who is interested in writing, I hope you'll share this information with them.
Meeting Robert Beatty at the Rose Glen Literary Festival was great fun. He shared how his 'overnight success' really took over thirty years! I look forward to reading my signed copy of his newest book. I was bummed that I couldn't find my copy of Serafina for him to sign!

I'm excited to be Skyping with Leah Grimes' class this Friday (Read Across America Day-see below for activities). Leah's class is making a book trailer for the next Mermaid Tales book, The Narwhal Problem. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

My next festival is the always wonderful, Southern Kentucky Book Fair on April 27th. Hope to see you in Bowling Green, KY.

Read Across America day is Friday, March 1st. We celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss is a big way with activities from the National Education Association and Random House  (including this poster).

Another fun day to celebrate is Bailey School Kids Day, coming March 23rd! Look for more ways to enjoy the day in the next month's newsletter.
