Province Intends to Amend Traffic Fine Agreement

The provincial government has advised UBCM of its intention to amend the Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing (TFRS) agreement. This was communicated to UBCM in correspondence from the Honourable Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The current agreement provides an unconditional grant to local governments, returning 100% of net provincial traffic fine revenue. Read more 
Expense Limits for 2018 Local Elections

Under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, expense limits for general local elections must be published by May 31 in a general local elections year.  The Province has now calculated the expense limits for 2018 and Elections BC has made the limits available on their website. Read more
Legislation for Cannabis Control & Licensing, Distribution 

On April 26, 2018, the Province introduced cannabis legalization legislation, the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act and Cannabis Distribution Act, as well as key amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act. The Province expects to open the first government-operated retail store and introduce online sales by late summer 2018. Read more 
Campaign Finance Rules for Elector Organizations

On April 27, 2018, the Province announced amendments to the Local Election Campaign Financing Act regulations to ensure that corporate and union donations will not be used to fund any elector organization expenses in the year of a general local election. Read more
