Texas Landowner Duty to Trespasser on Property
Spring has sprung and it is bluebonnet season here in the Lone Star State! Texans love our bluebonnets and many folks make yearly pilgrimages to take photographs with the official state flower. This can cause anxiety for some landowners who may be concerned about their potential liability for trespassers on their land. Under Texas law, the only duty that a landowner owes to a trespasser is not to intentionally injure that person or to act with "gross negligence." For liability purposes, any person who enters the property without permission is considered a trespasser and is owed the duty mentioned above.

Lone Star Land Steward Regional Award Winners Announced
As anyone with a plot of Texas dirt they can call their own will attest, land stewardship doesn't just happen; it requires effort. Those who can keep their land productive in tough times as well as good are true conservation heroes.  The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Lone Star Land Steward Awards program recognizes those private landowners for excellence in habitat management and wildlife conservation. The awards also seek to publicize the best examples of sound natural resource management practices and promote long-term conservation of unique natural and cultural resources.  This year's crop of award winners represents broad and sometimes unique conservation goals, from traditional wildlife management alongside livestock operations to next generation conservationists.

Outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming is an 8,900-acre former ranch where cattle and horses once roamed. Now it's just open land with nothing but grass. When the owner passed away he didn't have a succession plan. With no obvious heirs, a family member sold it. It eventually became subdivided and a realty company now advertises it for redevelopment primarily as retirement or vacation properties.  Lesli Allison , executive director of the Western Landowners Alliance, doesn't want to see more huge ranches like this one broken up into pieces, each with houses and utilities.
