Remembering The Rev. Martin Luther King
LUM Participates in Local March for Dr. King
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, the Tippecanoe County Public Library organized the MLK 50 March, a commemorative sidewalk march to remember the 50th anniversary of the death of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- and LUM was honored to have a small part in the program.

The sidewalk march began at the Hanna Center and ended at the Tippecanoe County Public Library. At the library individuals who remember this day shared their personal stories. At precisely 6:01 p.m., the time when Dr. King died, there was a solemn observance along with the tolling of the bells (50 times) at Central Presbyterian Church. The event was closed with a bit of poetry and socializing.

LUM staff members, board members, and After School Program students participated in the march and program. Shuttle buses were provided courtesy of Lafayette Urban Ministry before and after the program to assist participants with parking. Social Justice Reflection: March for Our Lives
The Latest Article from Jud Dolphin
Jud Dolphin is the immediate past executive director of Lafayette Urban Ministry, who periodically publishes an article on his blog.

His most recent post is timely and insightful. Please read Jud’s latest piece, “ March for Our Lives ” and let him know what you think. In the article, Jud shares, It's sobering, but I'm encouraged to see so many Gen-Xers and Millennials. They greatly outnumbered us Baby Boomers. I think leadership for positive social change is being passed forward. New leaders. New energy. These young adults are so savvy. They know how to use technology, build inclusive coalitions and engage Americans to become more active citizens."

Jud Dolphin was the LUM Executive Director from 1978 to 1990. After 40 years working with social change organizations, he retired and then joined the US Peace Corps. From 2009 to 2011, he served in Konotop, Ukraine. In 2015 to 2016, he served in Skopje, Macedonia as an organizational development specialist. Jud lives in Washington, DC where he is enjoying family and friends, creating art and volunteering for positive social change.
