What's happening and how our #gamechangers are leading the way
Annual Meeting & Spirit Award Breakfast
Thank you Florida Power & Light, Western Michigan University and Merrill Lynch for graciously sponsoring our event on Friday, May 11, at the beautiful Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club. Over 150 guests attended as our #GAMECHANGERS were honored. Volunteers, donors, and sponsors alike were recognized for making a difference over the last year.
Julie Mathis, Executive Director, Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, passed the gavel to Harvey Goldberg, former Mayor, City of Punta Gorda. Mr. Goldberg officially accepted the responsibility and welcomed three new board members, adding to the diversity which the United Way embraces. Ms. Erin Gant (Riverside Realty), Ms. Charlotte Miller (Florida Power & Light) and Dr. Bill Wood (former physician)
Thank you for making a difference in the life of every kindergartener in Charlotte County!
This was an exciting chance to work with the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading in Charlotte County. On April 26, over 70 volunteers helped to assemble 1100 kindergarten readiness bags for the upcoming school year. Normally this huge project takes eight hours but with all-hands-on-deck, it was accomplished in only four hours. Several agencies, individuals and companies participated. Among the volunteers were Publix Super Markets and Charlotte County Rotary Clubs.
A special thanks to The Patterson Foundation, the Charlotte Community Foundation and the Charlotte County Rotary Clubs for funding this project.
Giving Challenge a success!
As a "Newbie" organization to the 2018 Giving Partner Challenge, we made tremendous strides in our efforts to completely eliminate poverty in our community. We raised a total of $5,475, yet contributions matched were $5,325. The total amount achieved with 1:1 matching dollars is $10,650! These dollars will ensure more local children in low-income families will succeed in school and graduate prepared for college, a career and active citizenship.
