This is shaping up to be a big year for the City's Public Safety Plan. After extensive preparation over the last two years, we are ready to begin construction on Fire Stations 51 and 52, the Tukwila Justice Center, and a consolidated Public Works facility. Fire Station 51 will be the first project to kick off.

Comments are now being accepted on a periodic review of the City's Shoreline Master Program
The state Shoreline Management Act requires that counties, cities, and towns periodically review and, if necessary, update their Shoreline Master Program (SMP) every eight years. The City of Tukwila's update started in the fall of 2018 and will be complete in 2019. More information is available on the
Department of Ecology website.
The City of Tukwila and Washington Department of Ecology are accepting comments on a periodic review of the City's shoreline master program (SMP) under RCW 90.58.080(4). The City has prepared draft SMP amendments to keep the SMP current with changes in state law, changes in other Tukwila plans and regulations, and other changed local circumstances.
Public comments will be accepted until
April 12, 2019 at 5 PM. A joint local-state public hearing is set for
March 28, 2019 at 6:30 PM at Tukwila City Hall.

Interested in helping guide the direction of your community? If you have considered serving in public office, the Mayor and three Council seats are up for election this year:

Tukwila City Councilmembers serve at large, representing the City's residents. Council duties include reviewing, studying, discussing and deciding on policy and budget questions. Interaction with members of the community involves public and personal meetings, email or other written correspondence, and phone conversations. Councilmembers attend weekly Council meetings, as well as meetings of standing committees and special meetings scheduled throughout the year.
A candidate must be a registered voter and a resident of Tukwila for at least one year. Candidates should have a working knowledge of the laws that regulate City government.

High School internship program applications available April 1
We are currently recruiting for the third year of our high school internship program. Applications are due no later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 30. Interviews will take place between May 7 and May 17, and all applicants will be notified of their determination by May 27.
The internship will take place between July 8 and August 30. This year each department will host an intern, providing students a broader opportunity to learn about City government, careers in city government, and skills that are transferrable across many fields and work places.
If you know someone who would be interested in this opportunity, have them apply! For a few positions, students must be 18 years or older, but for most, they need to be at least 14 years old,
and enrolled in high school. High school seniors are eligible for these internships.
The Internship application will be available on the City's Employment Opportunities website starting on April 1. We look forward to hosting our third cohort of high school students this summer.
