Summer Sized Life Groups
JUNE - AUGUST
Life works differently in the summer.
So, we're offering an array of 4-week, summer-sized, Life Groups. Whether you're already in a group, or want to try one out, 4 weeks in the summer can be just the right fit! We have an array of Life Group Leaders and times for June to August - in fact, starting next week! The goal is to offer some options for 4 week blocks, with the hope that one will fit with your summer comings and goings. Where might you tie in?
And by the way - what is a Life Group? Check out the video we did last fall describing how they work. Our summer groups will work roughly the same - just in shorter blocks. You'll find the video

Seeking the Higher Gifts:
What is Prophecy and How Can We Grow in this Gifting?
SATURDAY, JUNE 23

The Lord has been moving in some wonderful ways here at St. Giles of late. But we believe he has more for us - more of the Spirit's presence and power, and more opportunities to serve in the full gifting that comes with the Holy Spirit.
In fact, Paul encourages us to "seek the higher gifts,... especially that you may prophesy." (1 Cor. 12:31, 14:1) Could we learn how we can grow in our confidence to hear from the Lord, and then to speak his words into various ministry situations and prayers? We believe we can! And that will be our pursuit at a seminar to be held here at St. Giles on Saturday, June 23, from 9:30 to 12:30. This is a repeat of the seminar held on May 19 for those who missed it, or for those who want an encore! All are welcome, as Keith leads us in this quest for ever more effective ministry in the Spirit's power.

Have you seen the Gardens?
T
he garden landscape surrounding St. Giles is at the height of bloom and color. It's worth a walk around the building. Stop to rest in the Gillette Garden. For those new here, this lovely respite, located in the breezeway between the Sanctuary and Church Building, was designed by landscape architect Charles Freeman Gillette, (1886-1969).
Over his 56-year career, Gillette's wide ranging body of work includes more than 2,500 projects, encompassing residential communities, churches, hospitals, educational institutions, historic garden restorations, and private residential work primarily in Virginia and North Carolina. While serving as a nurse in a mental institution, Gillette had observed the beneficial effects of gardens and pastoral landscapes upon patients; he brought this understanding to his institutional work. Stylistically, Gillette's work was decidedly eclectic, influenced by formal design principles from English and European Renaissance traditions, as well as Colonial Revival themes from 18th century Virginia gardens. Admiring the collaborative work of Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll, Gillette frequently incorporated flower borders into his site plans. Two notable projects are site plans for Virginia House and Agecroft Hall in Richmond.
Special thanks to our garden volunteers -- Ruth Calder for her gift to nurture and keep the gardens healthy, Betsy Mead, who tends the Rose Garden, Linda Harrison for her seasonal wreaths and floral designs, and Marsha Hitchcock for tweaking and adding to the ambience of the garden pathways. Thanks also to the Property Team for toting and fetching and keeping all things watered and mulched.

7th ANNUAL BREAST CANCER WALK FOR EARLY DETECTION-June 16, 9-11 AM
31st Street Baptist Church, 823 N. 31st Street.
The "Time to Live" Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is not a fundraiser, it is a door-to-door face-to-face walk to:
- Distribute breast health information for men and women
- Stress the importance of early detection
- Make those without insurance aware of healthcare resources in Richmond Volunteers will meet at 9 AM for refreshments and a brief training before going out. Partnering organizations: Saving Our Youth/Richmond Guardian Angels, CrossOver Healthcare Ministry, Susan G. Komen, VCU Massey Cancer Center, Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
