THE 2017 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
 
Congratulations Graduates! You did it!! 
All of the lectures, the study hours, the papers, the homework, the reading, and of course, all the time spent not sleeping -- it  all pays off now!

The 2017 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 26, at 1:00 p.m. at the LMC Football Stadium. Graduates should arrive no later than 12:00 noon for check-in. 

Purchase your cap, gown & tassel
Graduates may now pick up their cap, gown and tassel at the LMC Bookstore. The cost is $16.80 per package  (plus tax). Designated Honors students may purchase an Honors tassel for  $4.60 (plus tax).

The STELAR (Student Engagement & Leadership Awards and Recognition)
 Awards
The STELAR Ceremony is  LMC's annual celebration, which acknowledges student and campus leaders. The categories include: Outstanding Student Leader Award, Leader for Social Change Award, Outstanding Student Club Award, and Advisor of the Year Award. 

Hosted by the Office of Student Life, the STELAR Awards will be held on Thursday May 18, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, in the Indoor Quad. Please, join us to applaud this year's award recipients!

2017 Transfer Celebration
Transfer & Career Services and Student Life invite you to a celebration of transfer success on Thursday, May 18, from 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. (directly following the STELAR awards). Join us in the Indoor Quad for a day of games, fun activities, food, graduation cap decorating, and more! Students who show us their letters of acceptance will be entered in drawings for prizes!

Scholarship Award Ceremony
Scholarship Donor Reception & Awards Ceremony
The LMC Foundation and Los Medanos College invite you to join in honoring this year's scholarship recipients on Friday, May 19. 
 
To begin, a  Reception for D onors & Scholarship Recipients will be held from 1:45 - 2:45 p.m. in the Library Community Room, L-109. Light refreshments will be served.
 
Following the reception, the Scholarship Awards Ceremony will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall, MU-720. Scholarship awardees are expected to RSVP by May 12.

ACADEMIC COMPETITION

Come out to support LMC students while they win big!  
The Academic Competition is a one-day event designed to motivate students to achieve scholarly excellence, while taking part in a fun and interactive academic challenge. This year it will be held o n Saturday, May 13, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in the Pittsburg campus gymnasium. 

Students participate in teams of four in the following subject areas: mathematics, science, social science, and English. Winning teams have a chance for awards that range between $400- $3000 to be divided equally among members. 

Sponsored by the Student Life Office, LMCAS, and the LMC Foundation.

Get reading and writing assistance with more consultants than ever before!  Prepare for finals with our awesome peer tutors!

CAREER ACADEMY OPPORTUNITY

Interested in Electrical Technology Careers?
In a collaboration between Los Medanos College and Opportunity Junction, applications are now being accepted for  the fall 2017   "Bridge to Electrical Technology"  Career Academy. Thanks to a generous grant from the San Francisco Foundation, the program is  free and is designed for those interested in careers involving electrical technology.  The Academy features: 
 
1. COUNS-034 College Success (1.5 units) scheduled over 2 weeks this summer
2. ETEC-009 Math for Electrical Technology (3 units) (a new college-level course contextualized for careers in electricity)   
3. ETEC-004 Introduction to Electrical Technology (3 units)

TEDxLosMedanos: The Future of Everything

In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading,"   TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.  This coming November 14, we will be hosting our first ever TEDxLosMedanos: The Future of Everything. The event is open to everyone, so anyone who has an idea worth sharing on the "Future of Everything" can apply.  There will be a blind review process to select speakers.

FINANCIAL AID UPDATES

2017-2018 Financial Aid is now being processed!
The Office of Financial Aid is now sending email notifications to student's InSite email regarding the status of their 2017-2018 FAFSA and Dream Act applications. Remember to use your Checklist and submit all requested documents to help expedite the application process.
   
2016-2017 FAFSA and Dream Act Application Deadline: June 30
If you haven't applied yet, the FAFSA and Dream Act Application deadline is FAST approaching! Make sure you complete an application by June 30 to be considered for federal and state aid for the coming academic year.

  2017-2018 BOGW Application is NOW available
If you're in need of tuition help this Summer, Fall, and for Spring 2018, apply now for the 2017-2018 Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW). 

There's still time to apply for a Spring 2017 Fee Waiver
If you haven't applied for the BOGW and you have a balance for spring 2017, you may still be eligible to waive those tuition fees. Apply for the 2016-2017 BOGW before May 26 to see if you are eligible.

Please note: If you have already completed or are planning to complete a 2017-2018 FAFSA, you do not need to complete a separate BOGW. The Financial Aid office will determine your fee waiver eligibility based on your FAFSA.
  
Keep receiving Financial Aid with Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
To continue to receive financial aid, students must meet the minimum academic and progress requirements of the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy. Financial Aid will be verifying that students are meeting SAP, so look out for an email once the spring semester has concluded and final grades are posted.

Sell back you textbooks for cash
A textbook buy - back will be held at the Brentwood Center during Finals week. From  Tuesday through Thursday, May 23 - 25, from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. in Room 13, bookstore representatives will be on hand, so don't miss out!   Remember to bring all CDs, DVDs and other supplemental materials that were purchased with your textbooks.

There's still time to complete your enrollment steps
