THE CENTER FOR ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Brain food logo
Brain Food Helps Students Study
The Center for Academic Support now offers nutritional support to students through The Brain Food Project, which is a program that provides food to students during tutoring sessions and is supported by a training system called EASe (Empathy, Awareness, & Sensitivity for equity). Through EASe training, the Center will offer Brain Food to students in a sensitive and inclusive manner, and students will participate in something that is just another of the many services that the Center for Academic Support provides to LMC Students.

The goal of the Brain Food Project is to provide students with food during study sessions, to increase their efficiency and success. Often, students get hungry and end up lacking focus or leaving a study session early. By providing healthy, nutritious food items to students as they study, the Center for Academic Support  hopes to help students improve their chances of academic success.

For information contact the Center for Academic Support at 925-473-7591.

Federal Student Aid

FAFSA Goes Mobile
The notoriously difficult-to-fill-out federal financial aid form, known as FAFSA, is going mobile!  While the questions remain the same, the FAFSA website has been redesigned to be mobile responsive and more user friendly.

FAFSA has also created a myStudentAid app which is now available for download to all mobile devices!, It's recommended that students and parents start using the app with the 2019-2020 FAFSA, so  they can use the IRS Data Retrieval tool to import their 2017 tax information.

To download the app, visit Google Play or the Apple App store

2019-2020 FAFSA
If you plan to attend college during the 2019-2020 academic year, complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA to learn if you are eligible to receive various types of federal and state grants, work-study funds, and loans.
To apply, go to the FAFSA website. This application asks for 2017 income and tax information. If you've already filed for 2017, you may be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval tool to transfer tax data  automatically.

Your right to dream

2019-2020 CA Dream Act - Apply Now
The California Dream Act allows AB 540 eligible students to apply for and receive several types of financial aid, including:
  • CA College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governors Fee Waiver).
  • State financial aid like Cal Grants and Chafee Grants
  • Assistance from EOPS, CARE or CalWORKs
  • Privately-funded scholarships
Complete a  CA Dream Act application or for  more information on AB540 eligibility, visit the Financial Aid
 web page.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements (SAP)
To continue to receive financial aid next semester, students must meet minimum academic and progress requirements. The Office of Financial Aid will be verifying minimum academic and progress requirements at the end of the Fall 2018 semester, according to the college Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy. Once the fall semester has concluded and final grades are posted, students may receive an email regarding SAP status.
