Regenerative Ag Conference anchors busy week

Regenerative Agriculture will be setting deep roots in southwest Manitoba next week.
Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association (MFGA)'s first-ever Regenerative Agriculture Conference "Adapting to Today's Food and Farming World" November 27-28,2018 at the Victoria Inn in Brandon, MB will be book-ended by two Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC)'s Grazing Club workshops on November 26 and 28 to give producers four days of access to experts on Regenerative Agriculture.
Embraced by a growing number of agricultural leaders and producers to merge economic and environmental outcomes, Regenerative Agriculture uses systems of farming principles and practices that increase biodiversity, enrich soils, improve watersheds, boost ecosystem services, and carbon capture in soil and above ground vegetation.
Organizers are thrilled with the response from producers and conference support from various organizations, companies and government departments- including General Mills, DUC, Manitoba Bison Association, Glacier Farm Media Group, Zoetis, the Livestock Sustainability Initiative and Manitoba Agriculture stepping as the Platinum Sponsors of the two-day conference.
"Producers at the conference will learn about ways to boost farm profits using farm systems and ground level-thinking that enhances available natural resources such as healthy soil and intact grasslands," said Pam Iwanchysko, a Manitoba Agriculture forage specialist, MFGA board member and the conference's lead organizer.
DUC's Grazing Club will utilize a couple of the visiting speakers at the conference on either side of it. On November 26, DUC Grazing Clubs will host a workshop with David Johnson, molecular biologist at the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural Research at New Mexico State University at Manitoba Beef and Forage Initiative's Learning Centre at the MBFI Brookdale site. On November 28, DUC Grazing Clubs will wrap up the Regenerative Agriculture week of excellence by having conference speaker Burke Teichert. a range management consultant, speak in Pipestone, MB.
MFGA Chair Darren Chapman said that the Regenerative Agriculture conference really offers something for all producers regardless of stripe.
"This conference is designed to also be of interest to annual crop producers and how they can synergize better with the lands they own for economic and sustainable reasons. I have annual crops that I farm as well as our forage and beef side of our operation and I will be listening closely on that front as well," says Chapman. "It's a very good opportunity for all Manitoba producers and organizations to learn from some of the very best experts in Regenerative Agriculture."
