"I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me,  but now I'm more afraid of succeeding at things that don't matter."

- Bob Goff at our Circle 58 inaugural dinner

Succeeding at things that matter most describes last month at The Gatehouse. Hundreds of you have been a part of leaving a legacy by supporting the childcare academy building, through volunteering, by collecting resources for apartment supplies and clothing, and by making our events super successful - and all for the 82 women and 105 kids working the program today.

A huge thanks to each of you for providing a hand up to these families who need us most, and if you'd like to join our community by partnering, see what's needed next at the end of the newsletter.

We wish you the best as you spend time on what matters most to you and your family this summer.

With best wishes and grateful hearts,

UPDATES & OPPORTUNITIES
Premier Academy now open

For our families and cities to thrive past our lifetime, an investment in our children is priceless.

But quality childcare has a hefty price tag...and for disadvantaged single moms, the cost of childcare is one of the biggest barriers which keep them from self-supportiveness.

The solution for Gatehouse moms and many community children is Premier Academy in Grapevine, which opened on June 11. Quality childcare and early learning are offered in this beautiful 15,000 square foot facility, with 8 classrooms, a 4,500 square foot gym, and two playgrounds.

Want to help?
  • Help underwrite the purchase of 2 more buses ($50,000 each) to transport kids to/from schools and Premier Academy  (donate online here)
  • Help buy Gatehouse children's uniforms (donate online here)
    • $50 purchases 2 shirts and 2 pants/shorts for 1 child
    • $150 purchases uniforms for a week for 1 child - even better for a working mom

G96 men's group event exceeds expectations

More than 250 people gathered at Premier Academy for a unique event given by the "G96" (Gatehouse 96 families) men's group. Last year, the group funded a part of the building, and this year, they finished what they started by supplying funding for the building, buses, childcare tuition and other needs for Gatehouse families. Thank you G96 hosts and guests!

Food and wine tastings from Chef Tim Love, Circle T Ranch, Mi Dia, Truluck's, Vaquero, Moone-Tsai, Casamigos and Tortuga were fabulous, and, following a dynamic live auction, guests enjoyed dancing with In10City Band.

The Gatehouse members and staff continue to shout a huge praise for the over-the-top support provided by these dedicated men, spouses and guests.

JCPenney employees find unique way to supply resources for families

JCPenney's employee-led resource community outreach team SERVE selected The Gatehouse for an employee service project in May.

Following a two-week donation drive, The Gatehouse received more than 900 items donated by JCPenney employees. The group also honored one of The Gatehouse moms selected through a drawing with a makeover from JCPenney Salon Services and Sephora.

The generous resources will help provide apartment necessities for new Gatehouse members arriving this summer. Kudos to JCPenney employees - you are appreciated!

LEARN ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Each month one element of the Gatehouse Independent Life Program will be highlighted.
You'll learn more about the needs that traditionally hold women back from breaking free from crisis situations: safe housing, food, clothing, transportation, legal aid, career guidance, childcare, financial literacy, counseling and life skills training.

ILP highlight: TRANSPORTATION

Have you ever stopped to consider how much more difficult your life would be if you didn't have a reliable car?

Reliable transportation is one of the most important resources a Gatehouse woman needs to become self-supportive.

While most women arrive at The Gatehouse with a car, often their car needs extensive repairs.  As new Members arrive, our local auto repair partner, DC Auto, will perform a thorough assessment on the Member's car and, based on their recommendation, The Gatehouse will assist the Member with repairs or the purchase of a reliable replacement used car.

For Members temporarily without transportation, volunteers help take children to after-school activities or drive Members to appointments or interviews.
How you can help:
  • Volunteer. Join our transportation volunteer team. Learn more about becoming a volunteer here or email [email protected].
  • Give. Help with repairs, gas or car replacement costs. Connect us with auto dealers who would be passionate about locating or assisting with the purchase of reliable used cars. Contact [email protected] for more information.
