Mah Jongg SIG

We had a great time at Gail Glover's house on April 16th. We had two tables (8 players) of ladies and many games. Gail's neighbor Nahed was also on hand and offered up some great Egyptian pastries and a fruit tray.  On April 23rd a game was played at Rhoda Margolis' home.  Again, we had two tables. We are very happy that this year we have grown to 10 Mah Jongg players participating in the joy of this game.  If you would like to learn please feel free to come on in.

It has been decided that a weekly game is now in order.  We have enough players to be assured of having at least 4 players available.  The game April 30th was at the home of Rebecca Acree.  The first game in May will be
11:00 AM, Monday, May 7th at the home of Alyse Pribish. Please RSVP to Elaine Cloward for Alyse's address if needed, her information is below.

Living with Purpose - Part Three

Excerpted from an article on Smart Aging, which was in the Aging in Atlanta section of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.  The emphasis is on how to cope with the changes aging can bring.  It should be a positive experience.

This is the third month of giving pointers on "Living with Purpose".

Tara Gruenewald,  chair of the department of psychology at California's Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University has found the following:

"People who perceive themselves as being useful had a stronger feeling of well-being and were less likely to become disabled or to die during a seven-year follow-up period than those who didn't see themselves that way. Her research highlighted how important it is for older adults to feel they play a valuable role in the lives  of others.
She also shared these observations:

"We often lose as we age into older adulthood is not a desire to contribute meaningfully to others but the opportunity to do so.  In midlife we contribute to others partly because it's demanded of us in work and in our social relationships.  As we grow older, we have to seek out opportunities to contribute and give to others."
As a reminder:

TTN is a dynamic national community of professional women, 50 and forward, whose changing life situations lead them to seek new connections, opportunities and resources.

Through TTN, women connect with one another to discover new perspectives and opportunities so they can impact themselves and their community.
