St John the Evangelist Parish

Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross is a Lenten devotion that offers witness to Jesus' Passion and Death. At each station we use our senses and our imagination to reflect prayerfully upon Jesus' suffering, Death, and Resurrection, and to simply experience the visual images to reflect on Christ's love for us. ( www.loyolapress.com )

St John will pray the Stations
Wednesday, June 13th at 7pm in the church.

Peter's Pence Collection
Next week, we will take up the Peter's Pence Collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Please be generous.  Click here to donate now.
GOOD NEWS - WestSide Baby Corner
The WestSide Baby Corner Playpen is back in the vestibule of the church and has been replaced with a smaller profile portable crib. We now also have an additional WestSide Baby Corner Crib in the school. Our 6th grade St John students and staff deliver and help sort the items (from school and church) every other week as their service project.
We are so proud of our St John students and staff for growing this treasured ministry!

A bit of history regarding how this ministry started:
In 1992 or about that time, Fr. Bill Heric gave a most meaningful homily stressing that we are all called to be "comforters". A parishioner, Mary Heckel, gathered a group of women and they came together to find ways to see how and where they could live out the call. The Baby Corner came alive. A colorful, clean and ample container (a baby play pen) was placed in the vestibule and quickly filled with diapers, blankets, comforters, etc. It has been a visible, important and blessed ministry for many years.

A special thanks to Olga Sala-Torra, who has faithfully picked up and delivered our goods to the main agency. And all the previous volunteers who came before, are most appreciated.

We have now moved into our 7th week of the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal. The good news is we have received pledges/gifts from 191  households for a total of $73,565!  But it means there are still many more  households that have not yet responded.  Help us reach our goal of $100,355. It's not too late for you to give!

Your gift can still help the Annual Catholic Appeal by its support of more than 60 ministries and services that are offered to thousands of individuals across Western Washington. If you haven't already made your gift, won't you please consider making a gift this year? No gift is too small. If you're unsure what to give, please consider a gift of $1 a day or $365 or more.
Go online to https://donate.seattlearchdiocese.org/aca or use a pledge envelope. If you'd rather call in your gift to the Appeal Office, they can be reached at 800-809-4921. Thank you!

Caregiver Prayer

Dear God, Give me the strength
and hopeful perspective
to be a good caregiver...

To care for my loved one,
and still take care of myself;

To have patience with my loved one,
and have patience with myself;

To remember that Your guiding
spirit is within my loved one,
as it is within myself;

To remember that my loved one
is doing his or her best to deal
with life's challenges,
as I'm doing my best to to deal
with my own challenges;

To focus more on the good within
my loved one, and on the blessings
within both of our lives, as I also
focus on the good within myself.

Help me, God, to encourage,
to listen, and to share Your love...
to share moments of faith, relaxation,
and joy with my loved one...
to help bring out the best in them,
as You help me to bring out
the best within myself.  Amen.

If we do not fill our mind with prayer,
it will fill itself with anxieties, worries, temptations,
resentments, and unwelcome memories.

[From Scott Hahn via ChurchPOP and Sheila Marty.  Thanks, Sheila.]

If you have prayer nuggets you'd like to share with the parish, email Bill Marty, [email protected].  Thanks!
