MFGA's First-ever Regenerative Agriculture Conference to be held in Brandon Nov 2018
April 16, 2018 (Winnipeg, MB) - Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association (MFGA) will be looking for representation that crosses all of Manitoba's producer lines regardless of crop planted or livestock raised as plans to host their first ever Regenerative Agriculture Conference November 27-28, 2018 at Brandon's Victoria Inn Convention Centre take shape.
"Regenerative Agriculture describes farming and grazing practices that, among other benefits, reverse climate change by slowly rebuilding soil organic matter and restoring degraded soil biodiversity - resulting in both carbon drawdown and improving the water cycle," said Pam Iwanchysko, MFGA's conference lead and Manitoba Agriculture's Livestock Specialist based in Dauphin, MB.
The conference will be focused on highlighting opportunities to boost farm profits using farm systems and ground level-thinking that enhances available natural resources such as healthy soil and intact grasslands. Presented by MFGA, the conference committee has designed an excellent program with highly-sought-after speakers from across North America and right here in Manitoba to discuss and demonstrate how livestock and grain farmers can profitably apply the principles of regenerative agriculture. Topics include crop livestock integration, soil biology, intercropping, grazing management, water management, and financial management.
According to Darren Chapman, MFGA Chair, the conference is a perfectly-timed vehicle for Manitoba producers to take part in and learn from given their interest in producer economics, stewarding the environment and the hot topics of climate change and soil and water management that are buzzing everywhere these days.
"MFGA wanted to do this conference as we believe it is timely and will provide great value to producers," said Chapman, who runs a grain, hay and cattle operation with farm partners Parry and Rob Chapman and Jeff Elliott near Virden, Man. "But MFGA also believes that the forages, grasses and cover crops we promote via MFGA have a huge role to play in times ahead."
Chapman says that by presenting the November conference that MFGA is connecting the interests of many Manitoba producers in ways and via speakers that the producers want to hear from, learn about and hopefully will utilize regardless of what crop they plant or livestock they raise.
