Inter-faith prayers at Miami Gardens Masjid in wake of the tragic Masjid attacks in
New Zealand
"As-Salam-Alaikum" -- "Peace be with you"
"Wa-Alaikum-Salaam" -- "And unto you peace"
The Arabic greeting filled the air at the Inter-Faith Prayers at Miami Gardens Masjid on March 17th Sunday, at 3:00 pm Inshallah.
The large gathering was in response to the two shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday, March 15th during Prayers.
This community response offered comfort to those gathered in solidarity amidst the horror of the deaths and injuries, a partnership to comfort one another and move forward with justice and reconciliation.
Led by Dr. Abdul Hamid Samra, Iman & Religious Director, prayer was intoned and greetings expressed by numerous speakers from all across our South Florida community.
The Message from Bishop Peter Eaton and the Diocese was presented by Father Horace Ward, rector, Holy Family Church, Miami Gardens.
The pain of the dreaded shooting resulted in 50 deaths and numerous injuries commemorated by the prayers and short addresses.
Sincere hope was expressed and a vision of living together as one people, one community of Allah filled the room.

Include Gun Violence in Emergency Plans
The Church Pension Group's Safety & Insurance Handbook for Churches, addresses
what to do in an emergency involving gun violence.
Quick communication and notification are key, the handbook emphasizes. And depending on church needs and budget, leaders can implement or update their regular security measures to incorporate newer technology, such as buzzed-in entry, automated locking, camera systems and key access.

In the first century Jesus of Nazareth inspired a movement. A community of people whose lives were centered on Jesus Christ and committed to living the way of God's unconditional, unselfish, sacrificial, and redemptive love. Before they were called "church" or "Christian," this Jesus Movement was simply called "the way."

United Thank Offering
(UTO) Board began an internship program for young women, named for the organization's founder, Julia Chester Emery. This program supports the work of UTO in addition to participating in the work of a local ministry. UTO is now seeking a fourth Julia Chester Emery intern for 2019-2020.
The internship will be in conjunction with Jasmine Road, a Thistle Farms Affiliate, in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. Jasmine Road exists to offer women who are trapped in a cycle of sexual exploitation and addiction a path to freedom, a haven for healing, and the opportunity to flourish, leading to generational change and the betterment of the Greenville community. Modeled after
Thistle Farms
, Jasmine Road offers a transformative two-year residential program with an innovative social enterprise component.
"Jasmine Road is an example of what can happen when God's people work together to participate in God's mission," says the Rev. Canon Alan Bentrup, canon for evangelism and mission in the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina. "We are excited to partner with UTO and Jasmine Road on this opportunity."

Life Transformed: The Way of Love in Lent and Easter
The journey through Lent into Easter is a journey with Jesus. We are baptized into his life, self-giving and death; then we rise in hope to life transformed. This Lent, faith communities are invited to walk with Jesus in his Way of Love and into the experience of transformed life.
New Way of Love resources for Lent and Easter include three components; additional resources from partnering organizations and churches are also featured:
Adult Forum
: This set of seven Adult Forums, suitable to diverse settings, ties the Easter Vigil readings to the seven practices of the Way of Love. Drawing on the ancient practice of setting aside Lent as a period of study and preparation for living as a Christian disciple (known as the catechumenate), the forums draw participants to reflect on salvation history, walk toward the empty tomb, and embrace the transforming reality of love, life, and liberation. As we stand with the three women at the empty tomb, we hear his call to go and live that transformed reality. Curriculum will be available in Spanish before the end of this month.
Quiet Day
: The Quiet Day curriculum condenses the forums into a single-day journey. Offered as an option for churches and dioceses seeking an alternative to the weekly class.
(
Test Kitchen
: "Living the Way of Love, Transformed." After the forty days of Lent, this Facebook-based platform will invite participants into a fifty-day Eastertide "Test Kitchen." People everywhere will actively "GO" with Jesus from the tomb to bless the world - and then share and inspire each other with accounts of how they are living the Way of Love. Consider joining this closed Facebook group now to receive regular messages of support as you live the way of love through Lent.
Resources shared by partnering organizations and churches:
Coming in early February are a series of sermons based on the Year C lectionary readings offered by St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania as well as video classes that track with the Life Transformed curriculum offered by The Hive

Bishops Object to Archbishop of Canterbury's Decision to Exclude Same-Sex Spouses to 2020 Lambeth Conference
By Mary Frances Schjonberg
|
The Episcopal Church's
House of Bishops said March 15 that it is "aggrieved and distressed" by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby's decision to exclude the same-sex spouses of bishops invited to the 2020 Lambeth Conference.
The bishops said they "are concerned by the use of exclusion as a means of building communion."
Welby says on the
website of the gathering of Anglican Communion bishops that he prays that "the Lambeth Conference will reinvigorate the Communion." The website notes that Welby has invited "every eligible bishop and spouse."
