Lovejoy High School

A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 04 30 18

P arents and Guardians,

This week marks the end of April and the last five weeks of school for students. As the parent of a daughter who is a Senior, this last month of school is bittersweet and makes me wonder how the last four years went by so quickly. I imagine those of you with a Senior can relate and, like Christy and I, will be feeling a variety of emotions between now and June 2nd.

As I mentioned last week, Advanced Placement testing will begin next Monday and continue for two weeks. We will also have End of Course Exams next Tuesday (Algebra 1), Wednesday (US History), and Thursday (Biology). A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast would be helpful for students on test days.

Please take some time and review the information below about important dates and events. May is an incredibly busy month, and we hope this helps you know what is happening.

Have a great week,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Volunteers Needed for AP Testing
We have 2 weeks of AP Testing coming up May 7th - May 18th, and we are looking for volunteers to assist with proctoring these exams. Below is a description of what you'll be doing and a schedule of the testing days for which we need proctors. To sign up, please click on the link associated with the day(s) and time(s) that you would like to help. If you are not already a registered volunteer with Lovejoy ISD, you will need to click here to complete a background check application.

Volunteers will help check-in the students prior to entering the exam room, collect cell phones, help distribute and collect the exam materials, and assist with actively monitoring throughout the exam time. You will report directly to the head proctor (a Lovejoy staff member) in the exam room.

Morning Volunteers should plan to arrive no later than 7:15 am.

Advocacy 101 - May 16th

Student Recognition

LHS Speech & Debate
Anna Rouse has recently earned the distinction of National Speech and Debate Association's Academic All American award. This award recognizes academic rigor, competitive speech and debate success and personal excellence. Out of more than 141,000 student members, fewer than 500 students earn this award each year. This puts Anna among the top half of 1% of all student members across the country. Congratulations, Anna!

Girl Scouts' Gold Award
Senior Neha Kapur will be receiving her Gold award which is the highest award in Girl Scouts, similar to an Eagle Scout. For her project, she hosted First Aid workshops to teach kids about the importance of first aid and how to perform it. Neha says, "My hope with this project was to be able to teach basic first aid to as many kids as possible so they are prepared if something happens in the future." She thanks Lovejoy for the opportunity to do workshops in all three elementary schools. "It was such a pleasure to spend time with these brilliant kids, and I had so much fun teaching them." Click here to view a video of Neha running the workshops.
