Through our Housing Connection, we want to help affordable housing and counseling organizations access trainings, promote themselves, build capacity as well as provide a network where best practices can be shared.

With rising home prices making it increasingly difficult for those with lower incomes to buy, mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are taking it upon themselves to provide more opportunities.The government sponsored entities have just announced support for three new low-cost housing options - rural homes, manufactured housing and the existing stock of affordable homes.

The years during and after an economic recession can be a breeding ground for housing scams. Scammers target families and individuals in a variety of ways, robbing them of thousands of dollars and threatening their financial security. With help from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Homeownership Preservation Foundation, and the International Code Council, this week's blog post highlights three common housing scams.

Because of known differences in health care experiences and outcomes by race and ethnicity, researchers in Toronto tested the effectiveness of a Housing First program enhanced with antiracism and antioppression practices. The main principles of the antiracism and antioppression services delivered include empowerment, education, alliance building, language use, and advocacy. In addition, whenever possible, case managers were fluent in participants' primary language and representative of the clients they served.  Prior research  on adapting Housing First for client populations explored differences in outcomes for youth versus adults.
