Where has your Parkway license plate been?

Blue Ridge Parkway specialty plate owners show their park pride everywhere they go. That's why it's fun to spot the gold tag on the road. This spring, our staff spied a Parkway plate in Joshua Tree National Park !

Here's what owner Sandy Leafe wrote about her plate's travels: We love to travel, especially to our national parks and monuments. That license plate has been to every one of the lower 48 states except Idaho. We haven't made it there yet, but it's still on our bucket list. In addition to the lower 48, the plate has been to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario on the east coast and British Columbia, Alberta, The Yukon, and Alaska on the west coast.

Where has your Blue Ridge Parkway license plate been? E-mail a photo of your plate on the road to Rita Larkin at [email protected] to have it featured in an upcoming newsletter.

Kudos for Kids in Parks

Shift Awards logo Our Kids in Parks (KIP) program is getting more recognition for connecting kids and families to nature and helping parks thrive. We're honored to learn that the program has been named an Official Selection for a Youth Engagement Award by the group SHIFT (Shaping How we Invest For Tomorrow). KIP was recognized for its track record of engaging 450,000+ kids with the outdoors through TRACK Trails and TRACK Rx programs, which promote children's health and the health of our parks by increasing physical activity and engaging families in outdoor adventures that foster meaningful connections to the natural world.

SHIFT is a program of The Center for Jackson Hole, a nonprofit that combines the protection of place with health, business, responsible recreation and cultural relevancy to advance cutting-edge ideas that are revitalizing the American conservation movement. The group researched more than 400 programs and evaluated more than 150 nominations for the award.

A winner will be named during SHIFT's annual festival in October. Wish us luck!
