A Message from Centenary

New Centenary Pictorial Directory

Dear Families and Friends,

We are excited that a new Centenary Pictorial Directory is being developed and we need  YOU (all church members and friends) to make our Church Directory complete! To celebrate our church family and strengthen the bond within our congregation, we welcome you to be a part of our upcoming new pictorial directory.

A new pictorial directory:
  • Preserves this special time in the life of our church;
  • Becomes a lasting record of our current membership;
  • Helps us connect faces with names; and
  • Provides contact information for all church members.
We are partnering with Lifetouch for this important project.  Lifetouch is providing the directory at no cost to our church. Every family photographed receives a complimentary directory and an 8x10 portrait. You can sign up for your photo here at Centenary on the bulletin board across from the kitchen after services beginning  Sunday, August 5th .

PHOTOGRAPHY DATES:

Wednesday, 9/12     2 to 9 p.m.
Thursday, 9/13         2 to 9 p.m.
Friday, 9/14               2 to 9 p.m.
Saturday, 9/15          10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SCHEDULING PHOTOGRAPY:

Our Church Directory Team will be set-up after church services to schedule photography appointments. If you have any questions, please contact Bob Almond at 804-833-3355 or at [email protected] or Susan Thomas at 804-387-8678 or [email protected].

For your convenience, all photography and portrait viewing will take place at our church with NO sitting fee. You will have a variety of poses taken.   One pose will be selected for the directory. In addition to your complimentary 8x10, you will have the opportunity to purchase additional portraits on the day of your portrait session.  Lifetouch's portrait price lists are available for those who would like them prior to the photography session.

We are looking forward to seeing all church members and friends in our directory and please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!  I am encouraging 100 percent participation!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Matt

Dear Friends,

Though new here, I have already experience the hospitality and grace of CUMC. As the Minister for Older Adults, you should know that this position is a reflection of taking the congregation's love for Christ beyond the four walls of the church. CUMC is committed to bringing the church to you when you are unable to be in fellowship with us here at Centenary.

I've begun making phone calls to set up appointments to stop by and visit. If you desire a visit from one of your pastors, please feel free to call us any time. If you know of someone who might benefit from a pastoral visit, please let us know as well and feel free to call the office at 804-648-8319. My intention is to continue to work on reaching out to you and touch base with all desiring a visit.

Let me conclude by offering my thanks to Matt Bates and Rita Callis for their help and support in this time of transition. I have felt welcomed and made to feel a part of this wonderful congregation.

God bless you all,

Tim Gerde
Coordinator of Older Adult Ministries

Issues of looted art and restitution, particularly of art misappropriated during the Nazi era, continue to be prevalent topics in art news coverage and remain important concerns for museums worldwide. This talk includes a historical overview of the issues, the response of the American museum community, and considers how recovery and restitution efforts have evolved to the present day, including a few case studies of VMFA's experiences with art restitution claims.

Canned Goods and Non-perishables Collection:  The Smethie Circle would like you to join us in collecting canned goods and non-perishable items for The Doorways, formerly known as The Hospitality House.  It provides lodging and kitchen facilities for families of children undergoing medical procedures. Dear little Brandon Herman from St. Lucia, lived at The Doorways during his medical treatment by The World Pediatric Project. He and his mother, Sophia, attended Centenary and we fell in love with them. We would like for this project to be in his memory.   We will begin our collection in June and continue through the summer. Containers will be placed outside the Ladies' Parlor and in the Social Hall.  Thank you for helping to keep the memory of Brandon alive by continuing to serve other children and their families as they make The Doorways  home while undergoing medical treatment.
