Kansas Horse Council Foundation Board Members include Susan Jaax, KHC Board Adjunct Leader, incoming and new board members, Liz Wine and Paula Williams-Lamb (pictured below) Co-Chairs, Dr. Pam Davis and Dr. Diane Taylor, Selection Committee, and Justine Staten,Treasurer and Director of Kansas Horse Council.

Change of Foundation Leadership

Past President of KHC Foundation, Theresa Peddicord,
was presented a token of thanks for her years of service.
 Thank your for your valuable time & service Theresa!

The Kansas Horse Council Foundation has been awarding scholarships to equine savvy youth since 2004. Ms. Theresa Peddicord (center) has served as the Foundation leader since 2012 and has mentored her replacements through the 2018 scholarship awards banquet, held June 13th. The new leaders of the Foundation are Ms. Liz Wine (pictured left) of Wichita and Ms. Paula Williams-Lamb of Basehor (pictured right). The Kansas Horse Council adjunct Board of Director for the Foundation is Ms. Susan Jaax of Wichita. The new "team" will soon begin making plans for the Equifest of Kansas 2019 Foundation Silent Auction and Art Sale. It is through proceeds from these as well as private donations that the Kansas Horse Council Foundation is able to award annual scholarships to Kansas Horse Council members who are graduating high school or continuing their college education.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the late Mr. Bob Clore and Mrs. Dale Ann Clore of Manhattan for their continued support of the  Scholarship program through the 4th annual Weary Family Trust contribution. Bob Clore was the original artistic creator of the Bud Newell award for outstanding service, given at the Kansas Horse Council annual meeting and banquet, since 1995. His involvement with Kansas Horse Council and the equine industry was long and vast and he will be missed.  S ince inception in 2004, the Kansas Horse Council Foundation has awarded $121,450 in scholarships to date. KANSAS HORSE COUNCIL & BACK COUNTRY HORSEMEN OF KANSAS UNITE!

Erin Glassmen, BCHA President &
Dennis Goodwin, Kansas Horse Council Board of Directors, President

The state of Kansas boasts over 500 miles of trails for equestrian use.  Through the Kansas Horse Council, Trails Director *Jim Thomas has for years promoted and worked personally on trails, helping to keep the access open to horseback riders.  In 2013, a chapter of Back Country Horsemen of America formed within the state, led by Steve Lindsey and several other people.  With the start of this chapter, we could bring some of the organization and trail work ethics that BCHA provides and are well known through many of the states in the country.  The organization helps to provide education on proper trail building and maintenance so that work that is done is long-lasting and sustainable; the organization also helps to provide information regarding the value of volunteer work.

*Last year, Jim reported
 the following information to Kansas
public land managers:

Kansas Equestrians raised $17,200 through annual benefit trail rides at Eisenhower, Clinton, Kanopolis and Perry State Parks.

Back Country Horseman of Kansas Volunteers from Northeast Kansas alone put in over 1,700 hours of volunteer time for trail maintenance, valued at over $50,000 by BCHA guidelines
