SPOTLIGHT
BOYS TENNIS EARNS EPIC WIN OVER OWEN J ROBERTS
Written by Head Coach Michael Esz

The boys in blue were up against odds that were quite even against OJR, but it would come down to attitude an effort on this day!

Two hours in and the athletes starting coming off the courts- PJP up 1-0, then it was 1-1, then PJP was up 2-1 in overall matches. The courts were tense with anxiety. The boys of PJP have the chance to make the post season and earn the first winning season in PJP tennis school history.  All of a sudden, the overall matches were at 2-2 and the outcome was beginning to look like it would still go either way. Yet the boys never stopped believing and supporting one other. With every point won the PJP crew were erupting as we went ahead 3 matches won to 2 matches won. But within minutes the match overall scores were now 3-3, and in complete deadlock. Wins came from the freshman Rutkowski with a gutsy comeback, Grimm and Wilkes battling to win in 3 sets, and an epic comeback by Boyce and Wheatley.

The team all quickly came together and ran down behind court 3 to support the last match of the day, the number 3 singles of JT Collins (pictured). Collins had lost the first set but battled back in the second set to even the third singles at match 1 set all. Collins filled with confidence and energy took a quick 4 game lead and was up 4-0 in the final set of the final match against OJR. The OJR player stormed back to tie the match at 4-4, PJP 5-4, tied 5-5, PJP 6-5. ...and with a the brilliance of the final game Collins quickly rose to the moment put it all on the line and won the final set 7-5 and the helped earn the team another win to brought the PJP season record of 5 wins 4 losses, thus keeping the goals of the season alive.

The entire day was a perfect storm of team camaraderie, team leadership from captains Flannegin and Boyce, and an undying support and effort from all the players.

One request the team has is that everybody come out on Tuesday 3:30pm to support the boys in blue as they battle Upper Perk. A win against UP would solidify the first winning season ever and a post trip to the post season! Show your colors and school pride and help support these boys!
