news from the blue
a message from jill....
Today's message requires some participation on your part. Are you willing? Then try this. Stop whatever you are doing right now and make a list of your priorities. I don't mean the list of tasks you want to get done today, I'm talking about the things that are most important to you as a human being on the planet. Who are your very favorite people? Where are the places you love the most? What activities feed your soul and spark joy in your heart? Go on. You're bothering to read this. Take a moment to pause and write a quick list. People. Places. Activities. Then read through it start to finish.

join the sanskrit revolution
Ever wondered about the Sanskrit words or mantras that you hear in some yoga classes? Sanskrit scholar Marcy Goldstein, Ph.D., is visiting the blue for a fun and fascinating workshop that will expand your understanding of the history and sacred language of your beloved yoga practice.

All are welcome at this two-day workshop, during which you will:
  • Demystify Sanskrit pronunciations, spellings, and definitions
  • Learn the history of yoga and its source texts, in a way you can't from books
  • Begin to apply Sanskrit as a sacred sound system in your practice
Join us for the full workshop, or just drop in for a day! Learn more and register.

the yoga of parking
If you've been around since the beginning, you'll remember back to when The West condominiums were under construction across the street and the havoc it wreaked on our little urban sanctuary. That was nothing compared to the major construction around us in every direction at the moment. If you've been to the studio lately, we don't have to tell you how much change is happening in our immediate neighborhood. The days of pulling up two minutes before class and finding a parking spot are over. Such are the growing pains of a burgeoning city. So, what to do?

Our guide to the Yoga of Parking:
  • Give yourself extra time. It's hard to go from madly circling driver to contented yogi. Even worse to plan for class and then give up with the frustration of not finding a parking place in time.
  • Program our number into your cell phone. Call us if you're in the vicinity and looking for a spot. We are happy to set up a mat and leave the door open for you.
  • Expand your circle. We are surrounded with free street parking, you just might have to walk a couple more blocks than you used to walk. Shift your perspective and make it a gift of extra time to clear your head, breathe deeply, and transition from the outside world to your center.
  • Go green! Walk, ride your bike, hop the R-Line or share a ride with a friend. These choices are good for you and great for our planet.
It's a blessing to live in a thriving and growing city. Let's bring our yoga to the expansion process -- even the challenging parts -- to keep our community expanding into the light.
