The Southington Historical Society and the Southington Public Library present
Milldale Depot Salutes Doris Day
Saturday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m.

On June 30, 2018, rail historian Robert Joseph Belletzkie will give a narrated video presentation with period newspaper articles, contemporary photographs, and historical documents to commemorate the filming of It Happened to Jane. On this day exactly 60 years ago, the Milldale railroad station became a movie set hosting Doris Day, Jack Lemmon, an aging steam locomotive, and a Hollywood film crew in the tale of a Maine lobster woman battling big railroad tycoon Ernie Kovacs; Ms. Day is the only surviving cast member, going strong at age 96 today. While the film was mostly shot in Chester, CT, Southington got its turn on this day when locals gathered by the thousands along the Canal railroad line south from the staging area at the Plainville station. Great fun for railroaders, historians, and residents alike. There may be a surprise or two as well.

After the talk, all are invited to take the short drive for a brief tour of the 1892 depot which has been restored by the town as a museum.

SPECIAL CALL TO ANYONE WHO WAS THERE IN 1958! We would love to have more photos, memorabilia, reminiscences, etc. Phone 203-913-9630 or email [email protected]

Co-sponsored by the Southington Historical Society and the Southington Public Library, admission is free and all are welcome at this very special, nostalgic, local history event.
