USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) announced its first ever mobile application, putting critical information at the fingertips of food service professionals and making it easier for them to serve wholesome, nutritious, and tasty meals through FNS's child nutrition programs.

Trust for America's Health (TFAH) and partner organizations have prepared a toolkit to advocate for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The toolkit contains, among other things, links to state-by-state fact sheets related to CHIP prepared by the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Kentucky HEALTH 1115 Medicaid Waiver Stakeholder Advisory Forum

Stakeholder advisory forums hosted by the Kentucky HEALTH Project Team provide an avenue for constructive feedback and solutions to help ensure a successful transition for Medicaid beneficiaries eligible for the new health and well-being program. 
 
At these meetings, team members provide updates on implementation activities, offer system demonstrations, engage citizens in system and process testing, discuss draft communications, answer questions about operationalizing specific policies, give notice of upcoming communications from the Commonwealth to beneficiaries, and address topics brought forth by forum participants.
 
The forums will include representatives from the healthcare and workforce development community, as well as frontline state employees. These public meetings will take place at 1:00 PM local time on the first Thursday of each month, and will alternate between being held in Frankfort and various locations around the state.

Interested parties can contact KYHealthTeam@ky.gov to RSVP and be included on future communications regarding these meetings.

Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy 2018 Spring Conference

The conference will be held at The Lexington Convention Center- Elkhorn Room in Lexington Kentucky.  

A preconference on Tuesday afternoon, April 10th, will be hosted by the Kentucky Department for Public Health's Kentucky Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Program.

This year's conference will feature expert speakers including professor Robert McMillen, PhD from Mississippi State University. See the 
agenda and preconference flyer for details about the conference sessions. KCSP is offering CE credits this year through CHES and KBN.

The conference and preconference are free to attend, and registration will be open until April 4th, 2018.

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has established a new Smoke-free Multiunit Housing ruling that requires all federally funded public housing agencies to develop smoke-free indoor policies for their properties by  July 31, 2018.

As the implementation deadline quickly approaches, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) teamed up with HUD, the American Lung Association, and the American Cancer Society to help local communities plan for, implement, and build support for smoke-free policies among Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and Multifamily federally assisted properties. The live Q&A will address effective implementation strategies, partnerships, tobacco cessation opportunities and enforcement.

This webinar is sponsored by NACCHO and the American Cancer Society and funded through a cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Funding Opportunities
Enhancement and Expansion of Treatment and Recovery Services for Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and their Families Grant Program

Purpose: enhance and expand comprehensive treatment, early intervention, and recovery support services for adolescents, transitional aged youth, and their families/primary caregivers with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring substance use and mental disorders. Applicants will be expected to identify and reduce differences in access, service use, and outcomes of services among females and racial and ethnic minority populations to address health disparities.
 
The award amount is up to $541,350 per year, no cost-sharing match required and can be an up to 5 year project.

Promoting Adolescent Health through School-Based HIV Prevention.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued the funding opportunity Promoting Adolescent Health through School-Based HIV Prevention.  The purpose of the grant is to improve the health and wellbeing of youth by working with education and other organizations to reduce HIV, STD, teen pregnancy, and related risk behaviors among middle and high school students.
 
Award Ceiling: $350,000
Project Period: 5 years
Eligible applicants: Special district governments, City or township governments, Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education, Independent school districts, Private institutions of higher education, Public and State controlled institutions of higher education, County governments, State governments, Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education, Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments).

Community Development Block Grant Program

The Department for Local Government (DLG) announced over $22 million in funding opportunities for 2018 through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The CDBG program provides funds for public facilities, economic development, housing, public services, and community projects.

All cities and counties are eligible to apply through DLG with the exception of Ashland, Bowling Green, Covington, Elizabethtown, Henderson, Hopkinsville, Lexington-Fayette County, Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, and Owensboro. These communities receive CDBG funds directly from HUD.

CDBG funds are federal funds allocated by HUD and must comply with federal regulations. Project funds are determined based upon project needs, reasonable costs, and overall effectiveness.

Application open March 1- July 2, 2018
