April Library Local Artist Gallery & Museum Exhibition

During the month of April the LW Public Library's Local Artist Gallery will feature the colorful pop art of Katie Kliffman.  Her acrylic paintings will be displayed through April 30 and may be viewed during regular Library hours.

The Lake Wales Museum's current exhibition is Postcards and Perceptions: Florida Seminoles and Tourism.  This exhibit features an overview of the Seminole Indians' history at marketing their heritage to the Florida tourist.  It is displayed in the LW Museum's Freight Room and will continue through May 31.

Cabinet of Curiosity

The Lake Wales Museum has created the Cabinet of Curiosity in the Lake Wales Public Library's main lobby.  The Cabinet of Curiosity contains examples of unusual items from the Lake Wales Museum's collection and our local history.  New items will frequently rotate into the Cabinet of Curiosity.

This workshop will use 'My Plate' (from USDA) to help you find out how your favorite foods measure up to healthy, nutritious eating. Learn to balance your 'wants' with your 'needs' while understanding portion distortion!

Monday, April 15 - 12 p.m. - Lunch 'n Learn - T o Your Health! Shop Smart
Do you know what is really In the food you buy? Do you understand nutrition labeling, the long list of ingredients, and how to find the Best Buy?  This workshop will focus on food shopping, where to find the healthiest food in the store, how to read the nutrition label, ingredients, and pricing so you can get the best bang for the buck!

Monday, April 29 - 12 p.m. - Lunch 'n Learn - To Your Health! Plan Smart -       Re-Think What You Eat
This workshop will focus on meal planning, including how to re-purpose leftovers. With just a few staples in your pantry, you can make a tasty 'new' meal. We'll use 'My Plate' as a base for meals and snacks, while making meal prep and eating a special event!

National Library Week Food for Fines Program
April 8 through April 20

Bring 5 non-perishable food items to the Lake Wales Public Library and fines will be eliminated.  All donated non-perishable foods will be donated to the Lake Wales Care Center's Food Pantry.  Restrictions apply, does not apply to damaged or lost materials.  Call 678-4004, ext. 221 for details.

3rd Annual Virginia Lassiter Leadership Luncheon
The third annual Virginia Lassiter Leadership Luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Parish Hall, 221 South Fourth Street, Lake Wales. 

The luncheon will be followed by A Conversation with Leaders of the Lake Wales Arts community: Robin Gibson, Jayne Crews-Linton and Marilyn Newell.

The Virginia Lassiter Leadership Luncheon honors Mrs. Lassiter's 58 years of dedicated service to the Lake Wales Public Library and the LW Library Association.
 
A limited number of tickets for the Virginia Lassiter Leadership Luncheon are available for $25 per person at the Lake Wales Public Library. Preservation Week Basic Book Repair Class

In celebration of Preservation Week the Lake Wales Public Library will host our Basic Book Repair Class.  The class begins at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 23 in the library's Schoenoff Meeting Room.
 
The 90-minute class will include an overview of the parts of a book, the difference between preservation, restoration and conservation. Participants will learn how to properly repair torn pages and broken spines. They will understand the tools needed to repair a book correctly.

This class is free, is but limited to 10 people.  Registration is required. Registered participants should bring one personal example of a book in need of repair.

Sarasota Chef, Warren Caterson Returns to the LW Public Library

Chef Warren will present another wonderful cooking demonstration at the Lake Wales Public Library.  The April demonstration is - Cooking Outdoors.

Chef Warren's cooking demonstrations are filled with food history, great cooking tips, money saving ideas and he prepares a dish for all to taste.  He will visit the Lake Wales Public Library, Saturday, April 20, 3 p.m.  Please call 678-4004 to register for this free class.
