Alysia Starkey, associate dean of academics at Kansas State Polytechnic, will serve as interim CEO and dean of the campus while a national search for a new leader is conducted. She will begin her new duties on July 1.
News and research
Bill Gross, aviation professor and chief flight instructor, has spent more than half of a century in the cockpit of an airplane and now his dedication to flying is being recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The partnership offers students the opportunity to interview for a first officer position with the regional carrier after earning a private pilot certificate, and also provides financial assistance, mentorship and a direct flow to American Airlines — the world's largest — once pilots are ready to transition in their career.

Kudos, publications & presentations
From recognizing the top senior in each degree option to honoring students for their community service and inspirational spirit, the Polytechnic Campus highlighted the achievements, attitudes and extra efforts of Wildcats during an annual celebration at the end of the spring semester.
The award, established more than 30 years ago, annually recognizes a Kansas State Polytechnic faculty member's commitment in the classroom, service to students and overall merit as a teacher.
The honor is presented annually to a professor on the campus for teaching excellence, a commitment to research, and honorable service to the university, college and community.
Scholarship opportunities
Aviation Majors
The Eugene Kropf Scholarship is available to students in any aviation-related curriculum. You must be a sophomore or higher with a minimum 3.0 GPA. The award is $500. DEADLINE: June 15
STEM Majors
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is offering a variety of scholarships to students majoring in STEM-related degrees. Awards range from $1,000-$5,000. DEADLINE: June 30
Aviation Majors
The National Business Aviation Association is offering a number of different scholarships for students studying aviation. DEADLINE: July 27
All Majors
The Leaders Save Lives blood drive runs from June 1 to August 31 . This program is designed specifically for students ages 16-24 years old and allows them to host a blood drive and earn money and possibly win one of six $1,000 scholarships. If students want to work as a team there are limitations but options as well. Please contact Dené Sheridan in the Fiscal Services office if you are interested.
Employee Tuition Assistance
Some K-State employees may be eligible for employee tuition assistance. Up to 3 credit hours of tuition a semester is possible. Must be a full-time (0.9 FTE or above), benefits-eligible position. For more information, visit http://www.k-state.edu/sfa/manage/forms/eta1.pdf .
Dependent/Spouse Grant
Dependents and spouses of full-time (0.9 FTE or above), benefits eligible, regular appointment employees may qualify for the dependent/spouse grant – up to 7 hours for full-time, undergraduate dependents and 3 hours for spouses and graduate dependents. Cashiers Office announces new summer hours
The Cashiers Office, which is located in the College Center's suite 209, will have new hours for the summer. Beginning June 14, the office will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payments, KSIS and parking account information are available outside office hours. For instructions, visit polytechnic.k-state.edu/fiscalaffairs. Financial aid, HR and sponsorships will remain open until 5 p.m.
