Dear friends,

Our kids - our high school graduate kids - celebrating their launch into the next phase of becoming who they are, are, at the same time, leaving familiar haunts, routines and relationships. Transition time. After the ceremony and the parties and doing what I darn well please for a while, come the questions. The decisions. The what now? How do I do now? How do I enter that big new world and the exciting opportunities everyone is so sure await me?

Transitions can bring with them a bewildering mix of excitement, freedom and unfamiliar demands on time, energy, relationship building, envisioning, adapting to and creating a new way of being me. And not just for our graduates - no longer "kids" - but for mom and pop who grapple with the joy and angst and adjustments of the happy/sad launching.

Makes me think how important it is for friends and family and community to stay tuned to our kids and families in transition times. To seek opportunities to hang with them in those transitions. To celebrate, encourage and share whatever wisdom we might have learned along the way. To help them believe in themselves and their ability, to help them gather strength for stepping into this new adventure confidently. Let's pay attention to our kids in transition.
