UNISON PRAYER - JUNE 9/10
|
|
Dear God, you have created the universe and everything that lives therein. All we have and will become is a gift from your loving hand. We thank you that even when we are not conscious of you, we are not forgotten by you. Save us from selfish motives and shallow living. Give us endurance and patience in time of trouble, humility and joy in times of success. Save us from arrogance and unforgiving spirits which separates and divides your people one from the other. Grant us the ability to nurture and care for each other in genuine love, even as we have first been loved by you. Amen.

Let us be a light in the darkness with an offering to help our brothers and sisters living on this devastated island. You may donate online at: I C.A.R.E. for Tonga or bring your offering, marked Tonga, to the church office.

UMW SERIES - HISTORY PART 1
|
|
In 1869, eight women gathered at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston and organized the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, which would later become United Methodist Women (UMW).
The women saved their pennies and raised enough money to send a doctor and a teacher to India as missionaries to serve the women of that nation.
During the next 100 plus years, there would be creation and reorganization of various women's church groups, plus mergers of eight different church denominations.
- In 1973, the "United Methodist Women" emerged as the women's international mission organization of The United Methodist Church.
- In 2012, the church General Conference voted to make UMW autonomous.
- In 2019, UMW will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
What began so long ago with only eight women has become today's largest women's denominational mission group in the world with over 800,000 members!

SUNSHINE FRIENDS SEEK VOLUNTEERS
|
|
At SLUMC, there is an unsung group of compassionate individuals who work behind the scenes to ease the pain when someone has lost a loved one. They plan, prepare food and refreshments, and serve at receptions after memorial services, sometimes with only a two-day notice. This group is available to help church families through a most difficult time in their lives.
Sunshine Friends needs people to help with the receptions. Requirements are: a heart for helping others, hold someone's hand if needed, and stand on your feet for several hours.
We also need a slate of bakers willing to provide cookies on short notice.
If you would like to be part of this very important group; to serve, to bake, or both, please contact the office at (480) 895-8766.

We want to convey our heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Marvin, Pastor Jean, and the Sun Lakes UMC family for your concerns, cards, and prayers for us over the past five months. While we still have a long way to go, we know that your thoughts and prayers have helped and will continue to help us through this trying time following Coeta's accident.
May God bless you all. - John and Coeta Sanders
