Associated Students Float OCTA Referendum
Associated Students passed a resolution to float a student referendum seeking to place a transportation fee on their spring ballot. The ballot measure calls for a $5.75 fall and spring semester fee for full-time students and a $5.05 fee for part-time students that would provide universal access to OCTA bus services. If approved by students, OCTA will provide the first year of bus passes at no cost. The fee would go into effect in the fall of 2020.
Student Success at its Core
This year's Strategic Conversation focuses on addressing basic needs with empathy for student health, well-being, and success. Strategic Conversations are planned, but informal, discussions conducted in conversational style focusing on policy issues that are open to the campus community. Edible Books Festival
Students, faculty and staff are invited to create edible works of art inspired by their favorite books for display in the library on April 1. Prizes of $25 gift cards will be awarded to student submissions selected by our staff for weirdest, most creative, most nutritious, student best, and most minimalistic. Faculty and staff submissions will be awarded achievement certificates in lieu of gift cards. Please RSVP to enter by March 28. More information about the event can be found on the library website:

Design-a-Bookmark Art Contest
Student are invited to submit creative bookmark designs for printing and promotion at the library. The design themes are literacy, diversity and success. The top eight chosen will have their bookmarks printed, and the first, second, and third place designs will earn cash prizes. Submissions are due by March 28.

April is Financial Aid Awareness Month
On Tuesday April 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., students, faculty, and staff are invited to come to the quad to learn about services the Fullerton College Financial Aid Office offers, the 2019 -2020 changes, financial literacy and financial wellness. Vendors and community partners such as Bank Mobile, IGRAD, FaTV, Foundation Office and Pathways of Hope, will be available to answer questions and offer information.

Honoring Student-Veterans at FC Night
Fullerton College Night at Angel Stadium on Friday, April 5 will honor student-veterans during the pregame ceremony. The ceremonial pitcher will be Joshua Bruner. Bruner is a United States Marine Corps veteran who provided humanitarian aid in Operation Tomodachi after a tsunami struck Japan in March 2011.

Softball
Since last Monday, the FC softball team has been on a tear beating six teams by a total of 44-3. The Hornets held four teams scoreless while enforcing the mercy rule on two. Victories were had over Golden West (12-0), Santa Ana (6-0), Allan Hancock (5-1), Compton (13-0), Chaffey (3-2), and Moorpark (5-0). Up Next: FC (24-1 overall, 7-3 conference) will host Santiago Canyon College for an Orange Empire Conference showdown today at 3 p.m. Come on out and support the team!
Baseball
The Hornet offense woke up at home Friday taking top-ranked Orange Coast College 9-6. It was game three of the Orange Empire Conference series where Fullerton had lost the last two to the Pirates (9-4 and 4-0). The Hornets had three things stacked against them. They were playing a red-hot team with only one conference loss, the Pirates are ranked as the No. 1 team in Southern California, and OCC had Keith "Superfan" Franklin on their side chanting hilarious sayings giving life into the Pirate's dugout and stands. Up Next: Fullerton (7-16 overall, 2-7 OEC) will play game one of the Orange Empire Conference series at Santa Ana College on Tuesday, March 26 at 2 p.m.
Women's Track and Field
The Hornets had a great day of competition at the El Camino Invitational last Friday. Rebeca Perez ran 2:32.28 in the 800 meter helping her to a four-second improvement. Jordan Montgomery and Kim Estrada each took 13 seconds off of their previous 800 meter race. Alicia Victoria mixing up her races ran the 100 meter in 13.09 and came back and ran the 400 meter. Teammate Shenise West ran a second faster in the same event still working on learning how to run the hurdle race with a time of 1:16.65. Roxanne Cuevas ran four seconds faster than her last time at 2:44.48 in the 800M race. Sam Starkey ran close to her PR's in the 100 meter and 200 meter races, however her biggest improvement happened in the long jump with a 15'6.75" jump ranking her fourth in the OEC. Chelsie Davila had a good day adding three feet on to her previous long jump. Kim Mataia had a half foot PR in the shot put placing third in the meet only a couple inches from the meet winner with a 36' 1.5" throw. Angellee Vernon achieved over 11 feet further with her discus PR of 103'9". Alexis Kotey tossed the hammer 15 feet further than her previous PR, which ranks her fifth in the OEC. Up Next: The Hornets have a bye this week, but Roxanne Cuevas will compete in the SoCal Regional heptathlon April 2-3. The team will be back in action at Glendale College for the Vaquero Invitational on April 6.
Men's Track and Field
In a field of over 30 sprinters at the El Camino Invitational last Friday, Xavion Steele continued his rise for the season, taking 3rd place in both the 200 and 400 meter races. Steele ran 22.77 and 49.68 seconds respectively. Teammate Conley Hillegas took 6th in the 400 meter in a time of 51.27. Ian Rusk maintains his consistency, taking 8th in a field of 30 in the 3000 meter, running 9:06. In the throwing events, Luis Marquez took 4th in the shot put and 6th in the discus. Marquez threw 43'1" and 118'9" respectively. Robert Moreno took third in the hammer throw with a toss of 129'6". The Hornets earn a well-deserved bye this week after competing for five consecutive weeks.
Women's Tennis
Fullerton traveled up to Santa Barbara City College on Friday and handed the Vaqueros a 6-3 loss. Kim La and Janet Shiau clinched the match in doubles for the Hornets winning 8-3. Up Next: FC (11-5 overall, 4-4 OEC) will play again on Tuesday, March 26 at Riverside City College. Matches begin at 2 p.
m.
Men's Tennis
The Hornets beat out Santa Barbara 7-2 in a non-conference match on Friday. Up Next: FC will play a home match today against Linfield College at 2 p.m.
Women's Beach Volleyball
The Lady Hornets split at the Riverside Three-Way match last Friday falling to RCC 3-2 and beating Saddleback 3-2. Up Next: FC will play at the Saddleback Three-Way at Irvine Valley College on Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m.

Residency runs through April 1
Fullerton College is honored to present Stephen Silver as the 2019 Artist in Residence. Silver is best known for his character design, including designing the style of shows such as
Kim Possible, Danny Phantom, Kevin Smith's
Clerks, and many more. Silver's solo exhibition will take visitors along on the journey of his evolution as an artist. The exhibition will be accompanied by an artist lecture and a week-long series of demonstrations as part of the distinguished Fullerton College Artist in Residence program.
March 28, 7:30 p.m., Campus Theatre
The Symphonic Winds ensemble is the major performing group for wind, brass and percussion music majors at Fullerton College. This ensemble performs standard band literature as well as commissioning new works from both students and established composers. Entrance in the ensemble is by audition. Non-majors are also welcome to join this ensemble.
