Dear Mason School of Music Family,

We are enjoying the start of a fantastic new 2018 spring semester with the return of our wonderful music students on January 22nd. We are happy to welcome a number of new students (including six international students) to our School of Music this semester.

We have an outstanding music faculty and are proud to present a stellar Faculty Artist Series this spring semester. We hope you will join us this Sunday afternoon, February 4th at 3 pm, for John Kilkenny's percussion recital.  Kudos to Prof. Kilkenny for his recent promotion to Term Associate Professor at Mason and for his recent appointment as Artistic Director of the 2018 Sewanee Summer Music Festival.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Jesse Guessford  has been chosen as the new Associate Director of Undergraduate Education at George Mason University. What a tremendous honor for Dr. Guessford!  We are pleased that he will continue to oversee and guide our fabulous Music Technology program in the School of Music. We will be conducting a national search this spring semester for an additional full-time music technology faculty member to join us next fall.

Dr. Kathryn Hearden , soprano, has announced her retirement, effective the end of the spring 2018 semester. Dr. Hearden has been a highly esteemed faculty member in voice for 24 years at Mason where she has also served as the Associate Director of Vocal Studies. She will be deeply missed by all of us.  Be sure to mark your calendar for March 2nd at 8 pm when Dr. Hearden will be featured in our Faculty Artist Series. We will be conducting a national search this spring semester for a new full-time vocal faculty colleague for the upcoming fall semester.

We are so very proud of the many accomplishments of our School of Music faculty, alumni, and students, as highlighted throughout this newsletter. Please join us at Mason for our upcoming music events!

Warmest regards,

Dr. Linda A. Monson
Director, School of Music
