A team of Georgetown researchers has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop a data-sharing tool for U.S. public health agencies and departments to improve the National HIV Surveillance System.

End of the Year Awards Honor Students, Faculty and Staff
The Golden Apple Awards recognized School of Medicine faculty and staff for their outstanding contributions to medical education and student affairs, as well as remarkable demonstrations of cura personalis. At the String of Pearls Awards, the School of Medicine Classes of 2018 and 2019 honored residents and interns who have made an extraordinary impact on their medical education. And at the Lavender Graduation, the Hoya MedAlliance Leadership Award was awarded to Casey Bishop (M'18).

A new study published by senior investigator Maximilian Riesenhuber, PhD, a professor in Georgetown University School of Medicine's department of neuroscience, is the first to provide strong evidence that learning in sight and sound follows similar principles, which could help scientists devise new approaches to restore sensory deficits.

Professor Heidi Elmendorf of the department of biology brought a group of Georgetown scientists and students to man a booth at the USA Science and Engineering Festival earlier this month. Billed as "The nation's largest celebration of STEM," the festival has brought together scientists, students, and curious citizens of all ages in Washington, D.C. every other year since 2010.
