Client Success Story
Living Her Passion: Creating a Successful Business
Red Bicycle Catering
Redding, CA

The Shasta SBDC has been helping Michelle Cave grow her catering business from its infancy, when she was making healthy take-out food for people in the Redding area from her home kitchen. Today she runs a catering business out of a commercial kitchen in downtown Redding. Red Bicycling Catering puts together weekly menus of healthy, nutritious food that can be pre-ordered and taken home to reheat and eat. With an emphasis on fresh, local, and organic ingredients, her food creations provide an alternative to burgers, tacos, and other standard fast food.
Her Story and Journey with Us:
Michelle's great passion is working with food. Her education in nutrition and background as a chef spurred her to develop recipes made from fresh, local produce. Michele was serving delicious meals and educating the community on nutrition and healthy cooking for 16 years when she decided she could form a business providing those meals for the community to take home, but she wasn't sure how to grow her passion into a business. Here is where the Shasta-Cascade SBDC stepped in.

Michelle originally came to the SBDC looking for help in locating a commercial kitchen for food preparation and financing options. Business Advisor Joe Rodola gave her resources and advice to nail down her business plan, walked her through different loan options which helped her acquire financing, and provided a steady hand while she navigated the challenges of finding the right location for her business. Once she was in the new location, the SBDC provided QuickBooks training.

With the help of the Shasta-Cascade SBDC, and a lot of hard work on Michelle's part, Red Bicycle Catering has seen fantastic business growth. In 2017, she hired 3 part-time employees and has seen a $100,000 increase in sales with 45% growth in the first six months of the year. Way to go, Michelle!
We at the Shasta-Cascade SBDC couldn't be happier with the progress she has made.  If you are interested in getting assistance with your business, give us a call at
