July 20, 2018

Hi all,

As we think about back-to-school and membership drives and WHY we are union members, let's remember the analogy that compares a pop machine to a gym membership.

Pop machines are transactional. We put the money in, we get a product out. When the product we want doesn't dispense, we kick the machine and get angry. Maybe we look for another machine to give us satisfaction. Lots of potential members are out there asking the question, "what can the union do for me?" and they may be thinking about a cost/benefit analysis or getting a particular kind of soda.

A gym membership, on the other hand, requires commitment and action in order to get out of it the things we desire. It includes a group of people interested in the same things we are, people who work together to get results.

Our union membership is like a gym membership. Let's ask this question of ourselves and our potential members: "What are YOU willing to DO to help make changes that affect our working conditions and our students' learning conditions?" Join us! Let's work together!

The Gubernatorial Primary is Tuesday, August 14, 2018
What is your plan for voting?
Offices on this PARTISAN primary ballot are Governor, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, odd-numbered Wisconsin State Senate seats, and all Wisconsin Assembly seats.
How the primary works
primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Wisconsin utilizes an open primary system; registered voters do not have to be members of a party to vote in that party's primary. [40] [41] [42]

No Crossover Voting
Electors may vote for candidates of only one political party. Select a political party ballot. On the selected ballot, vote for the candidates of your choice by placing a mark in the space designated next to the candidate's name. Or, write in the name of a person for whom you desire to vote. If you vote for candidates of more than one party, no votes will be counted.
