Paydays are Changing: See When You'll Be Paid this Summer
This summer, Payroll is introducing True Pay, a new time and pay system that will pay team members more frequently and accurately, and simplify how most employees request and track time off. This change will affect how we're paid, and we want to be sure you have time to prepare. That's why we've developed calendars that show when you'll be paid this summer, how your benefit credits, subsidies and premium deductions apply, and when your employee group will transition to True Pay paydays (the 7th and the 22nd of every month).

FAQ for Teachers

Why is DPS moving all employees to twice-monthly payments?
Paying employees twice a month means all employees are paid more often and solves for the length of time new employees have to wait to be paid.  

What was the reasoning behind choosing the 7th and 22nd as pay dates?
The goal is to pay employees as soon as possible. Companies that pay on the 1st or 15th are usually two weeks behind in payroll. Here's an example: A company that pays on April 15 is paying for time worked March 16-31. That's two full weeks later. With our new system -- paying you the 7th and the 22nd -- you'll be paid 5-7 days after the pay period has ended. That's a shorter wait time, and it means you'll have a full month of pay by the 22nd of every month. Also, it means your pay is more up-to-date, and your leave balances are more accurate.

Will teachers have a gap in pay?
No. Teachers will be paid a full paycheck on July 31. Then, teachers will actually receive two paychecks in August: a full, final paycheck for the 2017-18 contract year on Aug. 31, and your first half-month's paycheck on Aug. 22 for the 2018-19 contract year. After that, you'll paid half your monthly salary on the 7th and half your monthly salary on the 22nd of every month.

Is it true I'll have to electronically check in and out of work every day?
No. You will not be required to electronically check in and out of work every day. You'll continue using SmartFind Express to submit time off and request substitutes. You will not be able to request or report time off in True Pay. You will, however, have access to True Pay to see your leave balances, your timesheets, request health leaves and more.

What financial or budgeting options are available?
As a member of Team DPS, you have free access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Call 855-327-1377 to talk with certified public accountants and certified financial planners for help with tax issues, budgeting, debt management and other money concerns. Since teachers will have a full month's pay by the 22nd of the month, it's up to you to decide whether you need to change your automatic billing dates. On our True Pay website, there's an FAQ with links to companies that may allow you to change due dates.

What will the pay dates be during the transition?
The pay dates will be:
  • July 31 - A normal full-month's paycheck for the 2017-2018 school year
  • Aug. 22 - Your first half-month's paycheck for the 2018-2019 school year
  • Aug. 31 - A normal full-month's paycheck for the 2017-2018 school year; the last monthly paycheck for this school year
  • Sept. 7 - A half-month's paycheck for the 2018-2019 school year
  • Sept. 21 - A half-month's paycheck for the 2018-2019 school year
