The Spring Social Committee is  accepting auction item donations through this Wednesday, March 20 , so please consider supporting the PTSA in this way if you are able. Not sure what to give? Here are some ideas: restaurant gift cards, tickets to any professional sporting event or theater production, gift certificates to your favorite spa or exercise venue, vacation-home stays, or dinner parties. Submit your procured auction item to the Spring Social website . Procurement forms are also available to download  here .

Our popular wine pull is back!   Help us stock up for the big night.  Monetary donations are preferred for our committee to procure wine.  We accept cash donations or checks (payable to ISPTSA). Please drop off your envelope marked "wine pull" in our PTSA inbox (located in the school's main office). You can also donate cash to buy wine through our Spring Social website. REFLECTIONS PROGRAM AT INTERNATIONAL SENDS WINNER TO NATIONAL COMPETITION

Congratulations to IS student Serena Stevens for receiving the Outstanding Interpretation for Special Artist Visual Art at the Washington State 2018-2019 PTA Reflections Competition. Her artwork, entitled Angel Audrey , will go on to the national competition with results to be announced at the National PTA Convention in July.

Click here to see the final results for the state Competition. In all, Bellevue Council PTSA schools received nine state awards for their submittals.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MOVIE NIGHT

Friday, March 22, 6:30 PM, IS Commons

Join us for Movie Night! We will be showing Spider-Man: Homecoming (rated PG-13) and will serve popcorn! Students are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring blankets or sleeping bags—please no pillows or glass containers. Because of the rating of this movie, all students must have a signed permission slip to attend.
CLASS OF 2020: COLLEGE BOOT CAMP REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

College Boot Camp is a five-day workshop (three hours each day) and costs $200. Choose between two sessions, limited to 35 students each: August 12–16, either AM (9:00 AM–12:00 PM) or PM (1:00–4:00 PM). Payment is your registration and may be made online through student’s account at  https://touchbase.bsd405.org/  or in the office.

CALL FOR JOURNEY PROJECT MIGRATION PANEL PARTICIPANTS

Friday, March 22, 11:15 AM–12:55 PM, IS IPAC

Do you have a migration story to share? We are hosting a panel of speakers for 6th and 7th grade students in Human Geography classes to hear a diverse array of migration stories before they interview someone in their family or community and tell their story in a compelling way. We hope to engage parents and other community members to celebrate our diverse origin stories and recognize the courage it takes to move to a new place. 
 
All are welcome! If you are interested in sharing a migration story, please email International Studies teachers Tamara Truax ( truaxt@bsd405.org ) or Sara Clarke ( clarkes@bsd405.org ). 
AP WORLD HISTORY SUPER SATURDAYS ARE HERE!

International sophomores and parents,
The AP World History test is May 16.

AP World History Super Saturday Review Sessions are on the calendar!

  • They are FREE!  
  • They are from 12:00–3:00 PM, in the Sammamish High School Library! See schedule below for specific dates.
  • They will review content you need to know for the AP World History Exam, by time period!

STUDENTS, take action now! Do these things ASAP:
  1. Check your schedule. Check your parents' schedules. 
  2. Mark your calendar. Put reminders in your phone.
  3. Arrange a ride. Thank the driver(s) in advance.
  4. Bring your laptop, power cord, pens/pencils, paper, and a water bottle.
  5. Be on time, be ready to review, and behave exceptionally well. If you must arrive late or leave early, take the sneak approach . . . don't draw attention to yourself.

CLYDE HILL FAMILIES: SAD NEWS REGARDING DEB EBERHARDT

Deb Eberhardt passed away recently after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Deb was at Clyde Hill Elementary for 14 years, from approximately 2000 to 2014, and developed the highly sought after reading extension program. Her passion to develop a love of reading within each and every student she worked with was evident and effective. 
Red Cross CLUB BLOOD DRIVE THIS MONTH

Wednesday, March 27, 1:00–7:00 PM, IS Library

Join the Red Cross Club for our first ever annual Blood Drive! Donors who are willing to sign up can do so at the sign-up table in the commons. Donors must be older than 16. There will be complimentary food for donors.
SAMMAMISH HEALTH & WELLNESS NIGHT—OPEN TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL FAMILIES

You are invited to attend the Sammamish Health and Wellness Night. The purpose of the evening is to spread awareness about mental health and give students an opportunity to share their ideas on how families can promote positive adolescent mental health. 

Local mental health service providers attending: 
  • Youth Eastside Services
  • Seattle Children's
  • The Family Help Line for Parent Trust for Washington Children
  • Sound

Families and community members will have the opportunity to learn about various mental health topics and ways they can positively impact those topics. This learning will be led by first- and second-semester health students. The topics they've selected and will be presenting on include: stress and stress management; anxiety disorders; post-traumatic stress disorder; bullying; self-harm; eating disorders; ADHD; depression; self-esteem; and suicide.  

In addition to providing information on the causes, impacts, and statistics on these topics, students will be proposing an action that families can do to help support their adolescent loved one with their chosen topic.
  
We look forward to meeting you and seeing you at the event. Students are excited to share their expertise and ideas on how to promote more positive mental health at and outside of Sammamish.

The Community Engagement committee (a joint venture of the Bellevue Schools Foundation, PTSA, and Bellevue School District) would like to offer a light lunch and program to educate parents about the different programs—as well as the difference between programs—that are available for Bellevue School District Students. The following programs will be discussed: Advanced Learning; AP (Advanced Placement) and IB (International Baccalaureate); AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination); CTE (Career and Technical Education) and WANIC (Washington Network for Innovative Careers); Dual Language—Spanish, Dual Language—Mandarin and the International Spanish Academy. This is a great opportunity to get all the information you need in one place and make sense of it all. Sign up here .

TRY OUT FOR BELLEVUE CHEER

Bellevue Cheer is wrapping up a very Successful season. They took 3rd place at WIAA State Cheer, leading Championships in both the Traditional and Game-Day Divisions. After qualifying for the USA Spirit Nationals, the team traveled to Anaheim, California, to compete in the Show Cheer and Crowd Leader divisions, making it to finals in Crowd Leading. 
 
Tryouts for Bellevue Cheer are coming up soon!
Practices/tryouts: March 25–28 from 4:15–6:15 PM

Is your child ready to spread his or her wings to France, Germany, Italy, or Spain? Adelesco Youth Exchange provides a unique, two-way exchange program offering the opportunity for your child to immerse him- or herself in a new language and new culture and to host your child's carefully matched exchange partner in turn. At Adelesco Youth Exchange, we will match your child with a student about his or her own age in France, Germany, Italy, or Spain (your choice), you will decide exactly when (whatever’s best for your schedule), and for how long (between six to twelve weeks) you want your child to go on exchange (and then to host) as part of our flexible and affordable nonprofit langu age immersion and cultural exchange program for qualifying students between the ages of 9 and 18.
