message from the principal
|
One of the most fun - and definitely t
he glitziest - junior/senior events is happening this Saturday at the Fillmore in Silver Spring. Plans for the prom have been ongoing since last year. The junior
class has planned a beautiful
evening for our students. Of course, we want everyone to enjoy the evening - have fun, dance, and eat. But what we don't want is for our students to engage in any risky or dangerous behavior that night. Please help us convey the message that students are not to drink before coming to the prom. All school rules are in effect and we don't want any students to ruin the rest of their school year by making a bad decision prom night. For seniors, the prom falls within 30 days of graduation, which mean any senior who violates the County alcohol and drug p
olicies at the prom will be prohibited from participating in all end-of-year activities, including graduation.
Prom is a fun event for all of us. The students all look great in their formal attire and the staff love seeing the students dressed up and enjoying themselves.
Let's all commit to having a safe and enjoyable prom this year.

Our last Principal's Coffee/PTSA meeting of the year will be held in the LHS Choral Room on Wed, May 23 at 9 am. We'll wrap up PTSA business for this year, to include voting on our slate of officers for 2018-2019, and share plans for next year. After
Principal Amico
gives us an
update on renovations and school business
, we'll wish him all the best as he plans for his retirement years! All are welcome!

P
lease encourage your students to take
a moment as they leave the Langley parking lot to notice the wrecked car.
This car is a
very real reminder of the
tragic results that
can occur when a
teenager mixes alcohol and driving
.
Help us keep all Langley students safe. Please use the upcoming LHS Prom as an opportunity to once again talk with your child about the i
mportance of making good decisions.
Langley High School thanks Willow Spring Towing for their assistance again this year in obtaining the car.

Office assistant Khairina Worthey started
working at Langley HS this year, but before her jump to Langley, she had been an office assistant for ten years at the elementary school level. Mrs. Worthey grew up in the Bronx, New York, but moved to Virginia after elementary school and attended Jeb Stuart HS (soon to be Justice HS) in Falls Church. She later attended Norfolk State University and studied nursing for two years.
Mrs. Worthey's typical day begins with waking up at 4:30 am. Every morning, Mrs. Worthey stops at Dunkin Donuts on her way to work, still getting to LHS by 7 am. Her days in the office are usually busy, especially with the new security system. She is glad her new job at Langley allows her to get home at 4 pm to be with her family. Mrs. Worthey loves her work hours at Langley compared to her time at Glenforest ES, as she would usually get home around 8 pm.
If Mrs. Worthey had a week off from work to travel anywhere, it would be to a
private island far away. "I wouldn't want to deal with anybody;
just have "me" time," Mrs. Worthey said. Mrs. Worthey would also enjoy spending time with her children.

Saxons, did you know . . .
In 2016, there were more than 100 drug-related deaths in Fairfax County, 80 of which were caused by opioid overdoses - more than any other jurisdiction in the state.
This feature gives an important piece of info on drugs, alcohol or mental wellness. We hope these messages serve as conversation starters about substance use, stress and decisionmaking with your teen and family.
