Dear Assumption Family,
This week we say goodbye to a dear friend to our community. Known around the school as "Stevie's Grandpa", Mr. Andrew Heady Jr. will be laid to rest on Monday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Heady was a kind and giving man. He loved a good pun and woud share jokes and conversation while waiting to pick up his grandson at school. Several times each year he would make homemade cream pies and chocolate for the faculty and staff to share, just because.
His charitable nature was understated, but grand. Mr. Heady quietly supported our school charitable endeavors. He donated hundreds of cans of soup to the Homes for the Brave Souper Bowl soup drive each year. He supported the Darien Book Aid Plan once he learned that Mrs. Ferullo volunteered for the organization. Every holiday, Mr. Heady would ask if there were any needy families in our community that could use help. Routinely, he would deliver turkeys or whole meals to the school to be distributed to those families.
Mr. Heady volunteered and donated for all the right reasons. He was never boostful or out for recognition. He gave because he could and because others were in need. He is a true example of how Jesus wants us to live. When we learned of his passing a teacher commented, "Why would God take such a good man?" My response was, Maybe he needed a good man with him to show the way."
Mr. Andrew Heady will truly be missed by his family and the Assumption community. Personally I consider myself lucky to have known him for our short time together. I hope his family and friends find comfort in knowing he had such a profound and positive impact on me and so many others.
